Why do people still continue to breed dogs and cats when so many are homeless as it is?
I think it's very obnoxious....

- I agree, and that is why I wrote this link.. hope you like it.. http://www.helium.com/items/1401822-how-can-we-stop-having-unwanted-pets share it if you do.. I dont have a problem with reputable breeders - its everyone else who is the problem.. back yard breeders, "accidental litters", puppy mills/pet stores.. even the people who give pets away "Free to good homes" are part of the problem because obvisouly they were not a good home or their pet wouldnt have had pups/kittens in the first place.
- cause some do it cause they love it (reputable breeders) and some do it for money(byb) i got my two great pyr from a good breeder ony because all dogs we have gotten from shelters have tried to kill out chihuahua adults puppies it doesnt matter
- Because people like having cute little puppies/kittens running about the place, or they're just too god damn lazy to get them snipped.
- A lot of people don't see the issue with it. They think spaying/neutering is too expensive, or too dangerous, or a waste of time because THEY aren't going to let their dogs get around the opposite sex! Then one night when they aren't looking their little Daisy gets out of the yard and meets Butch from down the road and they're only together for a few seconds, and bam. Pregnancy. A lot of people just don't understand how horrible uneducated breeding can be. Purebred dogs need to be carefully bred or a huge long list of hereditary illness and disease can leak on through. That cute little 'purebred' golden lab you just bought? A few years down the road and you have knees that just stopped working, or hips. Some large dogs have heart issues, heart murmurs. Some dogs have seizures, neurological issues, eyes, allergies, noses, teeth, joints. The list goes on. Some people think it's natural. That its their animal's right to breed and that they won't calm down until they've done it. That it's cruel to take that away from them. They don't sit there, looking at their precious little girl and think 'oh boy, you're going to have uterine cancer in a few years, exciting!'. People seem to throw a wall over the possible consequences of keep animals intact. They don't see the fact that animals can live happier, healthier lives if they don't have the looming threat of reproductive cancer or infection. They see the fact that there's a doctor ripping them open, taking pieces out, and sewing them back up again. That their animal could possibly die. Even though very few ever really do. I have fixed every single one of my cats/dogs/whatever over the years and they've all come back healthy and happy. Same with all of my friends/family. Really, all it comes down to is ignorance. People don't research the facts, or they think it will never happen. Maybe they see their newest pet as a gold mine? When almost any breeder you come across will tell you that breeding dogs for a living is not quite as glamorous as it looks.
