How much do shih tzu puppies generally cost?

My friend and I intend to move into an apartment together. When settled in, I want a chocolate lab and she wants a shih tzu. She does'nt use yahoo answers so i'm asking for her. She would like a purebred, but wouldn't mind a cute mix. Any idea on the price?

1. If you just want a mix, go down to your local shelter and take your pick. Most of the time you can adopt for under $100. They often hold "adopt-a-thons" on the weekends where the fees are even less. If she wants a purebred, the prices can vary greatly. Some person that happens to own a shihtzu may 'breed' it and sell the pups for very little. A more reputable breeder may sell pet quality dogs for several hundred. A show quality dog would cost you even more. Your friend will just have to do her homework and shop around when it comes to finding a breeder. It should NOT be an easy process. If someone is selling their puppies for cheap and are eager to get rid of them, its not a reputable breeder. If there's lots of questions and usually a application process, then its more likely that she's found a responsible breeder.

4. well I've seen shih tzu as low as 250 around here but the average is around 400 dollars. Are you asking for a shih tzu mix or a lab mix. The only lab mix I know of is the labadoodle. It's half lab and half poodle. I'm in the process of rescuing a maltese/shih tzu puppy. I get her next Sunday and she'll be 8 weeks then. YAY!
