What is the name of the book that involved a young kid and a single sled dog that dies at the end?

I remember reading this book in school and seeing the movie in school too. All I remember about it is a kid and a dog in a snow sled race and the dog dies just before the end of the race because her heart gave out or something

4. The book is Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiner. The main character, Willy, lives with his grandfather who owes back taxes on their farm. Willy enters the sled race to win the cash pot. Unfortunately, he is racing against Stone Fox who wins every year. Willy's dog dies just before the finish line.
