I'm getting a new little dog! It is a Lhasa Apso. What can you tell me about these types of dogs?
I live alone in a small apartment. I work 8 hours a day but come home for lunch every day. She is just a puppy right now. Will she be okay if I ever I have to leave her here for 8 hours strait?

- ideally no a puppy learns everything in the first few months and if you did work straight hours say for 8 hours how can it wee,you can crate them but re think if you are considering working 8 straight hours
- Their very cute as you know, their how do you say "free spirits" but they can also be very stubborn more so than other breeds of dogs. Overall, though the experience I had with my Lhasa was wonderful he was a very loving little dog and had the cutest personality of any puppy I ever had.
- I grew up with lhasas and they are great companion dogs. They are very loving and fun to have but can be VERY stubborn. Lhasas have a tendency to get lonely easily so be sure to have plenty of toys around and a warm place to sleep so shes entertained, I find leaving a kong toy with good stuff (they make puppy size) in it helps ease my dogs anxiety when I leave. Make absolute sure you get her groomed at least monthly and brush her daily, if you start now she'll get used to the process and even like it! My mother wound up with the lhasa and she never got her groomed and it was heartbreaking...Be sure to keep hair from her eyes (clip it) as they have issues with eye infections which can lead to blindness. I hope this helps! They make great dogs but remember to get her socialized because they don't take to well to other pets and small children unless they get used to them early in life...Muffin was a great dog with us kids (raised together) and god help the stranger that came near us! SHe was so protective...
- We had a Lhasa from puppy hood to age 12. He was left alone from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm when i worked part time.when he was a pup. Until he was potty trained, I barricaded him in the kitchen and left the radio on. He had toys to play with. As long as you come home at lunch to take him for a walk, he will probably be o.k. But 8 hours of loneliness is a long time. I love the Lhasa breed. Our was a wonderful pet; stubborn sometimes, but liked to cuddle next to me or my husband in our recliners. Also slept on our bed. They do need a lot of brushing and grooming, even if cut short.
