Cross Breeds

Is the annual race held at Riodoso Down NM worth $2000000 quarter horse or thoroughbred racing?

Is it like the Breeder's Cup of Quarter Horse racing? Thanks Vicki J i think you're very knowledgeable when it comes to horses

  1. Yes, but it's more like the Kentucky Derby of quarter horse racing.
  2. If you are referring to the All AMerican Futurity, it is for Quarter Horses. 1982 marked the first year that the winners of the All American Futurity would become instant millionaires when this total purse reached well over two million dollar level. The instant fame and fortune associated with these instant millions grew this race quickly into what it has become today a premier showcase of racing’s who’s who and most importantly, a steely contest to determine who owns the fastest horse in the world of American Quarter Horse racing.
  3. The All American Futurity is for two-year-old Quarter Horses. It's one of the banner great races for Quarter Horses, but I wouldn't characterize it as being like the Breeder's Cup, because it's only for two-year-olds. This is the AQHA Racing website: http://racing.aqha.com/racing/ It's a good site for keeping track of upcoming stakes races and developments in Quarter Horse racing. This is the Ruidoso Racing website: http://www.ruidownsracing.com/ The All-American Futurity is held on Labor Day Weekend, and the city of Ruidoso has somewhat of a festival associated with the race. There are a variety of other Quarter Horse races for other divisions at other tracks. At Los Alamitos here in California, there's a race called the Champion of Champions that I would consider to be more like the Breeders Cup Classic. The Champion of Champions is open to three-year-olds and up that have become eligible by winning one of a number of stakes races. This is the Wikipedia entry for the Champion of Champions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Champion_of_Champions_(horse_race) Some truly great race horses won the Champion of Champions: Dash for Cash, Sgt. Pepper Feature, Refrigerator (3 times), Charger Bar and Easy Date.
