Cross Breeds

Why do people want maltipoos and other cross breeds??? Isn't that paying to much for a mutt?

I don't understand why people shell out tons of dough for mutts??? and why do people continuley make "new breeds" i think it's gross and sad.....cause there are so many mutts in shelters already.... what do you guys think?

  1. Its cause people like dogs or cats like anything else with different traits. Also people who have allergies like things like Maltipoos cause they don't shed which creates less of a problem with their allergies. I agree its sad cause their are alots of mutts in the shelter already.
  2. I agree with you. I also respect the fact that its a personal decision though. I have a very close friend who just payed for a "Yorkipoo". When she first discussed it with me, I reminded her that its just a mixed breed dog and she could just as easily adopt the same thing from a shelter. She was very clear about wanting to buy one from a "breeder" though. I offered her the basic facts about her purchase and left the decision up to her. She chose to go ahead and buy the dog. I'm not gonna condemn her to hell or constantly remind her about how I don't agree with her decision though. lol It was her decision, not mine. She had her reasons for wanting that mixed breed and she had her reasons for going to a "breeder". Again, I don't agree with her reasons, but that's about as far as it goes.
  3. Why have the same old same when you can get something new and shiny that ALL the celebs have? Case in point Paris Hilton's new dipwad bf just bought her a "teacup" yorkie or pom over in Japan. This is a woman you would be hard press to find with the same dog twice in the span of a year. Designer mutts are just scams on the ignorant and ill informed. They aren't new breeds and never will be because the people breeding them aren't breeding with a purpose beyond profit.
  4. Who cares what others do. we all have our own right to do what we want. it is not illegal to buy a mixed breed...so get over it. either way these puppies need a home. and if ppl are willin to pay lots of money it means they are willin to be responsible. i know way to many ppl that get dogs from shelters and they either got parvo...or other illnesses....
  5. I remember the good old days, when a mutt was a mutt and people only got them from shelters or paid someone 50 bucks that had an 'oops' litter. People were smart enough to realize that a cutesy name didn't make it a real breed and certainly didn't make it worth more money. Mutts are great, but they shouldn't be bred on purpose and most definitely shouldn't be sold as special! Maybe people are just more stupid than they used to be....or maybe people just want something that is gimmicky and they like to pay a lot of money for something that's worth squat. I don't know.....I find it really sad that with great mutts being killed in shelters because they are just a 'regular' mix rather than a 'cutesy' mix, people are shelling out big money for a mutt when they could save the life of a great dog in a shelter for less than a 100 bucks. When are people going to learn?
  6. It can be a combination of many things. The first one is is the dog recognized as a 'breed'. AKC does not. Now the reason why people spend so much on a 'mute' or a 'mix'.... This is the question but sometimes I wnder why someone will pay so much for shoes or vacations or.... It is truly up to the person buying how much they'd like to spend and if it is worth it. Some do it just for something new which is probably the worst reason.
  7. It's just plain ignorance and misinformation, repeated over and over by the media whose reporters should know better but don't bother to research. Allergies are no reason to be breeding any kind of mixed up "poos" - allergies are not caused by hair of the dog, the allergens are dander from the skin and from the saliva of the dogs - that's been stated over and over and you still read "they don't shed". Utter nonsense, all dogs shed some, hair/fur is the same thing and has little or nothing to do with true allergies. The rest of it is just status appeal, one clueless wonder reads about another clueless wonder having some sort of new mixed mutt and wants one just the same. Gorgeous mix breeds in shelters and even breed rescues - anything you want, and some really unique one-of-a-kind cute muttlies. Go adopt from a shelter or breed rescue. Only an utterly depraved mind could want to subsidize or reward the breeding of more mixes or randomly bred pedigrees when millions are destroyed every year for lack of homes. You're right, it is gross and sad -- and says a lot about our throwaway mindset. Problem is, these are living, feeling, suffering companion animals, not furniture.
  8. I agree. If you want a mutt go to a shelter and give a homeless one a home! why would you pay that much for a dog anyhow? p.s. almost every dog breed we have today are mutts of somekind. Just like we are all foreingers in America
  9. Hi, i got a cross-breed a puggle, but I had no idea about all of this designer dog, puggle craze stuff. I saw one in a pet store and I told my fiance I wanted one and i did research, I thought it was just another cute dog that would work well with my family after doing all the research..and then I had people slander me and that is what made me want to dig deeper..I only donated $200.00 for her and I did consider adopting and the fee was $275.00 but the puppy that works for my family was gone so we found Alaya and i don't feel bad bc I ws not looking for a Designer Dog, I have only been a Furr Baby mom about 4 months I have a 6 month old Toy Fox Terrier and he is awesome, so i just looked at it as a puppy that we could love and worked well with my family, as far as people wanting it for the wrong reasons..i say grow up..don't get a dog bc it is a fad..
  10. I have nothing against people who want to adopt a certain cross-breed; for instance, my MIL would love to get a Collie/GSD mix similar to the one she had growing up. However, people who intentionally mix the breeds and call the pups a new 'breed' and give them stupid little names like 'cockapoo' or 'chiweenie' or 'papapoo' or whatever. It's such a scam, and too many people are either gullible enough to think it's a rare breed or have an inferiority complex and absolutely MUST have this new 'breed'. I agree, there are so many mutts (and purebreds) in shelters that get euthanized because of irresponsible greeders who insist that their mutts are better than shelter mutts. Personally, I will never buy a dog. If I want a purebred, I can go through a breed rescue.
