  1. You don't. You leave palpitating to a vet who knows better. You want to risk your dog's life? Fine, but don't attempt doing something that through your inexperience could harm either her or the pups. There is no reason for someone with no breeding experience to try this anyways. If you want to know if she's pregnant that is what your vet is for. And she's not completely healthy unless she's had her genetic clearances.
  2. If you don't know what you are doing, you could injure the pups. Leave palpating to those that are experienced.
  3. Do you want to feel to see IF she's pregnant? Or just have a bit of a feel of the pups? (I mean externally, of course - shouldn't go ferreting around internally if you don't know what you're doing!) I'm not sure what exactly you want to do here, Carter. Can you enlarge on this at all? Meanwhile I'm going to star this in the hopes that Scoundrel might be in the vicinity. He's very knowledgeable about pooches. I once delivered a litter of Chihuahua puppies. It was a nerve wracking experience but one I wouldn't have missed for anything. They are sooo small when they pop out!
  4. Dont really "feel" her. If she is laying on her back, just gently touch her belly. If it feels really hard, usually they are pregnant. But you cant be sure until she is closer to being due. And if she is touched too hard, it could kill the pups, so be careful!!!
  5. If you have palpatedn't for puppies, DON'T do it. On a breed that small, you cause damage or death. Ask your breeder or vet what to do and he or she will be happy to show you how. As for back yard breeding, again, DON"T! There are so many unwanted puppies which either get euthanized eventually, killed by a car, or other means. Please leave the the breeding up to the professionals. They know how to keep the breed standard as close to perfect as it can get.
