How often do miniature horses need hoofs trimmed?

I'm thinking about getting a miniature horse and wondering how often do their hoofs need to be trimmed and is it the same prize as a full sized horse?

  1. my farrier charges the same $40 horse/donkey/pony/mini for a trim every 6 -8 weeks
  2. Their hooves still need trimmed or shod every six to eight weeks. Although, the price may be a bit lower since the farrier won't have to spend as much on shoes or work as hard on the hooves. But they still need taken care of regularly just like a full sized horse.
  3. They would need it as much as a regular horse. They still grow just as fast and still need it as regular.
  4. Its the same price and timing as regular size horses. We use to breed those and my neighbor who was a farrier before he broke his back trained me on our miniatures, so they were free for us. Its back breaking i had to sit on the floor to get to some of those little guys. You may want to check with your local person, there are some who wont do them.
