Cross Breeds

Is it possible to cross-breed a fox with coyote, wolf, or dog?

I have heard of wolves, coyotes, and dogs cross-breeding with each other - is it possible for foxes to cross-breed with these three animals as well?

Public Comments

  1. It is possible, as foxes are part of the canine family like wolfs, coyotes, and dogs are.
  2. I really have no idea, and I checked a site on internet. But where are you gonna get the fox?And what traits are you trying to selectivly keep?
  3. No. Wolves, coyotes and dogs all belong to the genus Canis, and are thus closely related, whilst the various fox species belong to several different genera, including Vulpes, Dusicyon and Urocyon. They are too distantly related to other canids to be able to interbreed with them - whilst all belong to the family Canidae, foxes diverged from other canids millions of years ago, and no longer share enough genetic material with them to be able to breed. It is possible to crossbreed certain fox species with each other, however.
