Is a Siberian Husky and a German Shepherd a good cross?

My friend has a full blood german shepherd and a full blood siberian husky...they crossed the breeds and they had puppies and now selling them....should i consider buying them for $50? is that a good breed/cross?

  1. I think they call them shiloh shepherds. Its a cross like any other, 50 $ sounds fine.
  2. DON'T SUPPORT BACKYARD BREEDERS! That's exactly what your friend is, even if they aren't asking a lot of money for the pups. There are enough dogs out there already!
  3. I had one (adopted). She was ABSOLUTELY great with my grandson. One time he offered her a cookie he was eating (he was only 3) and as she reached for it, he pulled it back. She simply sat down & waited for him to give it to her. I was amazed. I had never seen a dog that would'nt even try to take it, even as it was pulled back.
  4. Good for what? Both GSDs and Sibes were developed to perform specific functions in specific ways. But not the SAME functions, although the GSD is the world's most versatile breed. As others have said, you should not encourage ignorant BYBs. And to be able to sell their pups for a mere $50 they MUST be ignorant BYBs, who have done none of the expensive things that responsible & reputable breeders do before allowing stud A to mate brood B. • Both the parents of that litter are from breeds of a size in which HD & ED have to be guarded against. I'll bet that neither parent has an official hip certificate, nor an official elbow certificate; I doubt that THEIR parents do, either. • Both breeds include highly dominant individuals, and individuals with minimal trainability. I'll bet that neither parent possesses a CGC, let alone any performance or training certificates. • I'll bet that there is no printed & signed Guarantee stating what the "breeder" will do should the pup develop any of the genetic "unthinkables". Just a silent "Buyer beware"! In summary, $50 is cheaper than any rescue group can offer a pup for. IF you are one of life's supremely lucky people who are never touched by disasters, have a fenced back yard that will not only keep your adult pooch home but will also keep stray dogs & stray brats OUT, and can't afford the $1000± a well-bred pup with a Guarantee will cost, go for it. But make sure you do a thorough job of vaccination, socialisation, training. And be aware that being a responsible owner will cost you about $20,000 over a dog's lifetime, most of it in the first year & last year, regardless of the purchase price. It's like buying a dirt-cheap car: What you save on the purchase price is almost certain to be more than made up for by running costs & repairs.
