Does anyone know any or where to find good horse quotes?

I have a project I am doing, and I need some horse quotes, but the catch is they have to be related to the events. I need one referring to barrel racing or pole bending, one about western pleasure, English pleasure, jumping and one about Showmanship. Also, if anyone knows where I can find pictures, preferably of youth, that demonstrate each event, I would be most appreciative. This is for 4-H, so kids would be best. Thanks everyone!

  1. I don'y know but this is a good site for comparing ect: www.horsemart.com I think its .com if not try .co.uk
  2. Barrel Racing/Pole Bending: Turn N Burn 3 barrels, 2 hearts, 1 dream Ride it like you stole it Western Pleasure: No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle. ~Winston Churchill To ride a horse is to ride the sky. ~Author Unknown English Pleasure: A horse is poetry in motion. ~Author Unknown Jumping: Horses lend us the wings we lack. ~Author Unknown O! for a horse with wings! ~William Shakespeare, Cymbeline Showmanship: I picked this one since its you and your horse on the ground. He knows when you're happy He knows when you're comfortable He knows when you're confident And he always knows when you have carrots. ~Author Unknown You might be able to look on a fair website, they usually have photos of 4Hers
  3. Don't know if these would be of any help but: "....I have blind faith in the policy that quality, tempered with good judgment and showmanship, will win against all odds." —Walt Disney Also, have you read the book "Chicken Soup For the Horse Lover's Soul"? I have it and it's not only got great stories, but quotes as well.
  4. “So, many of these horses are pretty stressed out. I've seen a three-horse trailer that they've brought seven horses in it. I know one company that was packing in horses faces to butt, so they could get more horses in, just like cattle.” - Mike Korth “People were spoiled by all the great horses in the '70s, ... The fact is, racing just got a bunch of great horses in a short time. It was 25 years between Citation (1948) and Secretariat. [The current dry spell has] been a little longer than that. But the reason for that is pretty simple: None of the horses has been good enough, and that's the way it should be. It should take a great horse to win the Triple Crown. I don't want to see a mediocre horse get lucky and win it.” - Steve Cauthen “I got started in harness racing as a fan back in the 1980s and I always wanted a horse, but I wasn't in a financial position to claim one. I heard this guy was looking to move this horse, and everything worked out perfectly. The horse got sharp and I saved some money and claimed another horse. I just parlayed it all.” - Gregg Pistochini “I was surprised I was able to go so slow the first quarter. Bobby (Gonzalez) was getting after his horse to show some speed but his horse wouldn't go. My horse relaxed so nice. When they started to run at him, he picked it up on his own. As soon as horses come to him, he leans forward and wants to go.” - Russell Baze “I already know what I have; he doesn't have to prove anything to me. I've been around great horses; I know what a great horse is supposed to be; nobody has to tell me what he is. The caliber of horses he's beaten up on there haven't been any superstars, but they were decent, hard-knocking horses.” - Ernie Paragallo “I just want to say this horse is going to be a very good horse and has a chance of going to the Kentucky Derby. He comes from good bloodlines (Florida's bred Premiership). He's the most determined horse I've ever watched work. He's some kind of horse.” - Charles Fletcher “She looks at them more as pets than as racehorses. She looks out for their best interests, which is great. Me, I believe if they're fit, things take care of themselves. If you got a fit horse, you got yourself a healthy horse. The worst thing for horses is overtraining them. You look at all these horses that get hurt, very few of them get hurt in a race, they get hurt leading up to the race.” - Ernie Paragallo “He's an amazing horse. No horse I've ever seen in any race stumbled like that. And I don't know any horse stayed up after going that close to the ground. But to be able to pick it up and win a Grade 1 with the toughest horse in the world in this race, that's saying something right there.” - Jeremy Rose “You need to spend some time every day with the horse, one hour, two hours, 15 or 20 minutes, it just depends. Little by little it is going to get used to you. It's important to spend time with the horse. It learns to understand your body. If you don't feel the horse, you are not going to control the horse.” - Sebastian Zarate “For want of a nail the shoe was lost, For want of a shoe the horse was lost, For want of a horse the rider was lost, Forwant of a rider the battle was lost, For want of a battle the kingdom was lost, And all for the want of a horse.” - Benjamin Franklin “We had a horse last year that we raced in this race, and it did not do very well. They are young horses, and this is their first race. The horse that did do well last year went on to win over $100,000 for us.” - Richard Guerra
