  1. I don't think there are any best breeds. I think that the best breed or cross breed is the one(s) that you have. Dogs have different personalities just like people do. So of all of the dogs that I have had in my life, they are all the "best breed" to me :) I will probably get thumbs down for this because it is my opinion and there are people out there who think opinions are wrong - there is no such thing as a wrong opinion, that's the great thing about having one!
  2. That's like asking what is the best flavor of ice cream or the greatest rock band. It is going to be a matter of personal opinion and nothing else. Temperaments vary individually within breeds and while there is a general perception of temperament types, these are not guaranteed to occur in any one pet. That would depend entirely on the genetics and socialization given the dog.
  3. If it was up to me i would choose a beagle or a german shepard. These are good look-out dogs. These dogs get along well with other adults or children.
  4. Really it depends on what you are looking for. Dog breeds vary so much. Most family dogs we've had have been Labs, Collies, or German Shepherds (mixes). I really like German Shepherds, they make great family pets and guard dogs. They are easy to train, not to mention they are pretty.
  5. I think that totally depends on what you're looking for in a dog. What one person likes is SO different than the next person, that's it's kind of useless to try to pick a "best". I know personally I love the look and personality of Pugs, and intend to buy one eventually.
  6. any mixed breed or pure bred is a good dog as long as you train it! I love all the mixed breeds I have had! Including the 2 I have now! 1 is a Rottweiler/German Shepherd/ Husky mix-Dakota(she is black, tan and white(on her neck and butt) and my other dog Duke who is the most sweetest dog ever but aren't they all! Duke is a Labrador/Rottweiler/German Shepherd(he is a reddish yellow). He can be a brat sometimes but most of the time he is a bi sweetheart who likes to sit by me or sit in my lap.
  7. What the best breed of dog is various greatly from situation to situation. I personally have a Keeshond and thing they are a great breed - but they also have things that would mot make them the ideal dog for everyone.
  8. i have a border collie, black lab mix. i love this dog, i wish that i could have him forever. i really couldnt ask for a better dog. and i have a great story at the end of this. he is a medium size dog, and extreamly smart. he is laid back, but is always ready to play. he isnt quite as close all the time as a normal border collie, but as soon as he doesnt know where i am, he has to search for me and find me. he is always laying in the doorway of the room that im in. he was super easy to train. i got him from the humain society here in ohio, and he was a good dog from the start, but still needed guidence as to what is good, and what is bad, but he picks ideas up sooooo quickly. great with kids, other dogs, i can mess with him while he is eating (petting him, put my hand in the dish, tell him enough, and he will stop eating, take the food away while he is eating, ect), it sounnds mean, but it really isnt. just overall, a great great dog for someone who wants a fast learner, smaller then most border collies, well tempermented dog. so here is the story.... just the other day, i had to work. i keep in in my computer room when im away, he has a crate, but i keep it open, but the room to the door is closed. he keeps an eye on the birds that i have, makes sure they stay outta trouble...lol. the night b4, i had cookies at the computer, when i was finished, i closed up the container and put them on the floor until i went to bed, then i was gonna take them downstairs. well i 4got all about them. so when i was running late 4 school the next day, i just put him in the room, and didnt look around, just left. 6 hours later, i come home and let him out. usually he greets me and goes downstairs, well this time he booked it downstairs. i looked over and the container was open and knocked over. i was mad, he knows better. (my fault, i know). but i wanted to let him out b4 i delt with that issue. when he got back in, i called him upstairs and walked with him over to the container. when i was asking him about it (yes, i question my dog), i picked up the container, and to my surprise, the cookies were still there. he could have eaten one or 2, but they were all still there. i just laughed, gave him a hug, and we went for a walk. i was so impressed with him at that point.
  9. i would say a pitbull when u raise em properly there good pets.
  10. Collie cross germanshep i have one and every one i have met are brilliant. Also blacklab cross collies are nice. BUT it all depends on the way they are raised.
  11. The best breed/cross of dog is one that fits well into your home life. The ideal dog in my home might be a disaster in yours, and vice versa. If you're looking for a dog as your next pet, but have no idea what to look for, try your local all-breeds rescue centre. There's some great dogs available, of all ages, breeds/mixes. Ask the staff for advice, they'll do their best to match you with the right dog for your home.
