Painting Breyer Horses?
Highlights and Shading points and areas: I paint my breyer horses because it fun and i'm good at it, but i cannot seem to find the areas that need the highlights and shading...so can anyone give a website or e-mail a chart or something to help me out? i would be so grateful! Not exactly...i paint the actual breyer themselves...when i was little I got one of those "Make your Dream Horse" breyer kits, with it came a chart with a picture of a horse that had the areas ON the breyer where the highlights and shading should be. It's been a while and a cannot find it. That is what i mean.

- You mean painting pictures OF the horse figures, not the figures themselves, right? When you do a painting, set up a light source in one place, kind of above them but angled in from the side a little, like the natural sun would be. This will cast shadows and leave spots of highlight for you to see. Don't forget to include the shadow cast by the horse's body . . .this will give the effect of the horse being on solid ground! Basically you are doing a still life, so you have control over where the shadows fall and what direction! Have fun. Post some of your work.
- Place a movable lamp where it will shine on your horses. Adjust the distance and the placement of the lamp and watch what the shadows do on the horses. That will be your best indicator of what areas need highlights and shadows. Determining where your light source will be when painting your horses is the biggest hurdle.
