why is it so expensive buying a cross breed puppy?
you used to buy puppies cheap can someone please tell me why private owners look in the papers and look at breeders prices and the private sales put there prices up even no the dogs are not pedigrees

- go to Animal Control, your county "dog catcher". They will have beautiful animals all up to date on their shots and neutered/spayed, and it will be under $100 AND you are saving one from death row. Don't support backyard breeders. There are a lot of idiots who think they will become rich breeding animals--animals they don't know the first thing about. This should be illegal because it creates a lot of unwanted animals that over burden shelters and cause needless suffering and probably death for animals who have done nothing wrong. They deserve better than that.
- because there is some big "designer dog" craze and everything thinks its a new cool thing. "There is nothing new under the sun" though. Go to a shelter or rescue and you will see all the "designer dogs" you can stand!!!
- Maybe some owners feel that the more someone is willing to pay for a pup the more likely they are to care for it.Obviously this is not the case as there as many pedigree dogs in rescue centres as cross bred dogs.If you are looking for a dog please try your local animal shelter first. The other reason is greed of course.
- go to your local shelter or spca and get a pretty puppie sometimes they even have purebred !!! all for 100 dolllars they ar uptodate with needles and are spayed or neutored ! :)\ hope this helps :) :)
- Because someone wants to make $$ on designer mutts. Go to a shelter, save yourself the $$ and the life of a great canine friend.
- simply put because people will pay for it. Take a drive in the country and you will find plenty of free dog signs for crossbreeds
- Not a clue in the world. They are just mutts and while there's nothing wrong with mutts, shelters are full of pretty decent mutts for a whole lot less. Guess people just don't mind getting ripped off, who knows?
- BYBs found that ignorant people will pay hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of dollars for a mutt if they give it a cute name. You can find the same "designer breeds" at pretty much any shelter.
- Because unintelligent people are willing to pay big bucks for a designer dog with a catchy name. ALmost any dog from a breeder will cost you more than an adopted dog. Adopting pets in the socially responsible and most humane option.
- because people are greedy for quick cash.
- because many people r gullible and think their MUTT is special and "designer" and they think anyone who is anyone has one. dog give into backyard breeders. no responsible breeder will intentionally create mixed breed dogs on. go to the shelter. there r many deserving dogs out there for a fraction of the cost
- Because people mix supposedly pure breds, and combine their names so TA DA! you have a Yorkiehiemerhuahuapoo! They aren't bred by responsible people who know genetics well and are trying to create a whole other breed for a specific purpose. They are bred because Teenie Hollywoodites think it's cute to breed mixes, and there's a big 'designer dog' craze right now. If you want a mutt, or even a older pure bred go to a shelter first and see if they have any. Then fuel the stupid mutt craze.
- If you are not concerned with pedigree, and you are happy to have a cross-breed puppy, your best bet would be to go to an animal rescue centre, humane society or animal shelter. They always have plenty of puppies, and though they may not know the parentage, what they will know is far more valuable, such as if the animal has or has had any illnesses and what its temperament is like and if it has been vaccinated. For the adoption price, depending on where you may get it from, you will have a dog that is neutered, vaccinated, and possibly micro-chipped, and it will not cost you what private cross-breed owners are charging.
- Because some people are willing to pay big bucks for a crossbred mutt, and as long as there are people to buy them, there will be unscrupulous people capitalizing on that by breeding and selling them.
- Dont go there then... Visit local sanctuary... get one for donation.... You also are helping a dog to have a new lease of life by doing so.... You are saving him or her..... Bless U too!
- hi, i dont know why cross breeds are so expensive either because even a "FIRST CROSS" as some sellers are keen to point out are still mongrels once they are cross bred then first or 21stcross they sre still not pedigrees..... just a note to remember tho cross breeds do tend to be a bit more hardy than pedigrees. If you are looking for a dog why not try the Blue Cross or maybe you have a Second chance sanctury near you ,you should be able to get a nice dog from them at a reasonable price and they will have been neutered or spayed too.
- Because P.T. Barnum said it best...one IS born every minute. And that one who is born every minute will believe any line of feces they are fed about 'hybrid vigor', and 'hypoallergenic' and 'new breed to soon be AKC registerable'. So people part with big cash to be part of a fad, or because they think they can breed the guts out of any two dogs and make a mint too, and foolishness perpetuates itself, ad infinitum.
- We bought a boxer/corgie puppy for thirty quid once, she was a fantastic dog who made it to 17. Her breeder called the puppies Borgies, and wrongly expected them to have pyschotic tendencies and naturally docked tails. Unfortunately the breeder, Bishop Biggerstaff, died under suspicious circumstances many years back, some believed him to be the main supplier of an illegal dog killing blood drinking Satanic S and M circuit, which would explain the inflated prices, I however happen to believe otherwise.
- check out the Countrymans weekly for lurcher puppies ,loving dogs, not vicious ,good with kids.
- Supply and demand. If people are willing to pay big bucks for cross breeds, people will keep "creating" them. There's a guy online - some doodle guy - I won't mention him by his name. Read his bio. It's disgusting. He creates all kinds of dogs based on the Poodle and he thinks it's a good idea.
- Supply and demand, chavs buy these dogs and then they end up in shelters. Buy from a registered breeder only.
- Because people desperate for 'a puppy' will pay it. SUpply and demand. Same reason as people can't afford houses - those who are desperate will pay WELL over the houses' value...so eveyone increases their asking price. Same thing with dogs.
