Cross Breeds

Where can I buy a Maltese cross puppy?

I'm looking for Maltese x Poodle or Bichon Frise or Cavalier King Charles. I have heard lots of horror stories about puppy mills and pet shops and of course do not want to purchase a dog from a place that does not care about the welfare of the animal. However, where else can I buy a cross bred puppy? Registered breeders I assume will only sell pure breds? Are there any reputable breeders that have cross breeds? I have tried dog rescue organisations but have found they seem to have very strict guidelines and are not keen for us to adopt because we both work full-time even though my husband goes home for at least an hour for lunch. We live in Sydney so would appreciate if anyone knows of a reputable breeder? Thanks

  1. Try your local newspaper, they always have those sorts of crosses in the classifieds. Also, Try looking here: http://cracker.com.au/sydney/for-sale/pets/search.aspx?pg=6 and keep looking i think you'll find one. But in case you're wondering, there's no such thing as a 'reputable cross breeder' despite what they tell you as there's no way to know how the puppies will come out.
  2. First, I commend you on the research you've already done that has made you wary of pet stores and puppy mills. As to your question, you may indeed find a breeder with the type of dog you want, but no reputable breeder should be cross-breeding dogs. A reputable breeder is in the business to preserve and improve the qualities of their chosen breed, period. Visit your local shelters -- the truth is, most "designer" cross-bred dogs in another language would be called "mutts," and your local shelter is full of them, waiting for some kind family like your own to save their lives. If you absolutely MUST find yourself a breeder and you succeed, please check out the breeder's facilities with your own eyes, and ask for a health guarantee (stipulating how long you have to return the puppy should problems arise, not that you'd return a puppy, maybe, but a breeder's response to this request will tell you a lot about their commitment to their litters' well-being) and proof of any genetic testing that may be indicated by the two breeds which are crossed. A trustworthy breeder would not object to any of those conditions. Good luck.
  3. Just as a note, there is no such thing as a reputable cross-breeder. Those breeds are just mutts. In order for a breed to be recognized as a breed, it has to breed true in temperment and look for about 5 generations. Moreover, these cross breeds do not mean you get a mix personality, look-wise and exclude healthy issues. If you are looking for a maltese mix, than go to a rescue group or even look for a maltese rescue group. If you go online there should be a maltese club of australia or something to that extent.
  4. "BUY"???? Are you NUTZ??? ***WHY*** would you be stupid enough to PAY some CROOK for a POS MUTT/MONGREL??? That's crazy! There a MILLIONS of MUTT/MONGRELS sitting pounds! You're not ignorant enough to have fallen for that utterly STUPID "mutts are good-er" ***LIE***,have you??
