How do I stop cats & dogs Poo'ing on my new gravel drive?

On friday I had my front garden converted into A drive, the top layer is a golden coloured gravel/small stones. It seems the cats and dogs love it. they have already started to poo in it. I have just been told its because people train their pets to do their thing in a tray filled with a simular stone at home, so when the pets go out and see a drive like mine they think thats what its for. Does any body know if their is any way to deter cats and dogs from my drive

  1. You can get pet repellant to spray on it
  2. buy a water pistol and next time you see one about to go , squirt it with water , it should act as a suitable deterrent
  3. The cheapest way is to spread crushed moth balls onto your drive £1.50 per pack. The smell of camphor will drive them away. You can also buy a sonic cat and dog scarer. They have a large range and emit a very high pitched sound when cats or dogs come onto your drive. They cost about £30.00 and most garden centres have either got them or can get them for you.
  4. This works especially well for cats & should help witht he dogs as well: After scooping out the debris, spray the area with bleach, Let it dry & then sprinkle chili powder all over your gravel. the bleach kills the odor of their messes (animals will go back to the same area they've used, or others have used) and the chili powder gets on their paws (no it doesn't hurt them) and with cats, they will lick it off their paws, it will sting the tongue & they won't go back to the chili smelling area again--they're smart that way:) Yes, you will need to re-sprinkle after heavy rain. Keep an eye out for Walgreen's sales of their $1 spices-
  5. Purchase a motion detector sprinkler. It operates by battery and turns on the sprinkler when it detects movement. They are used for all sorts of four-legged critters (deer to cats) and are supposed to work well. I have a battery-operated motion detector that emits a high-pitched noise the animals don't like, works very well.
  6. Pour some ammonia in your driveway; it will keep the animals away; You may want to put it in a sprayer so that it does go further than just pouring it on the smell of .It burns their noses. You will have to redo it after a rainfall though.
  7. I have heard of garlic and fresh lemons . Its certainly worth a try or just go out or chase them away. Good luck.
  8. I use some plastic deer netting in a fine mesh (like for birds) and pin it down over my area I wish to plant in. In your case, you stretch it over your gravel area for a few days. The animals do not like to get their paws caught up in it. and while it is inconvenient, it does not hurt them at all. They then get used to staying away from it.
  9. Try an ultrasonic repellent device or a product called "scent-off" available at DIY stores and garden centres. If you have a lot of time on your hands, sit on your drive with a super soaker water pistol and just spray them into oblivion
