Has the FDA lifted the ban on the sale, movement and relocation of prairie dogs?
Has the U S Government lifted the ban on prairie dogs? Haysoos2, You are right about the USDA, however four years ago because of a health consern over an outbreak of monkeypox the FDA stepped in and placed the ban.

- I'm not familiar with US laws, but the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) wouldn't have jurisdiction over prairie dog sales. That would likely be the USDA (US Department of Agriculture). UPDATE: Cool. I didn't know about the monkeypox thing. Thanks. Up here, all our prairie dogs were wiped out by the settlers, and so we don't have any at all anymore. :(
- yes
- I'd be more concerned with violating state laws. Check with your state fish and game (wildlife, natural resources, game and parks, whatever) agency. One phone call could save you a lot of grief. Here in Arizona, prairie dogs are frequently carriers of plague, so the authorities usually take a dim view of relocation.
