late 70's early 80's snow war movie help? name plz?

this has been bugging me for while now, the movies about two group of friends that have snow ball fights against each other... i remember they build snow forts and use color in the snow balls but the climax was when one of the kids dog gets killed because it gets trapped in the snow fort at the end. i think it took place in canada and was made in the late 70's or early 80's plz help

2. Yeah I remember watching this movie with my brother at the time. It is Canadian, and in French but there was a dubbed English version, it's called La Guerre des Tuques or The Dog Who Stopped the War I knew that the title had guerre in it but I had to look up the rest.
