What do you think of my horse and his conformation, etc.?
I just had this question posted but I had it under the "Sports and Horse Racing" category and the only answer I got was on how ugly I was...lol sooooo Here are some pictures of my horse: http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm40/theFoxCrit/DSCF2226.jpg http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm40/theFoxCrit/DSCF2206.jpg http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm40/theFoxCrit/102_5759.jpg http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm40/theFoxCrit/101_1073.jpg http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm40/theFoxCrit/34.jpg http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm40/theFoxCrit/13.jpg Here are my questions: 1. How does my horse's conformation look? 2. How does he look over the jump? 3. Does he look like he would do good in dressage? 4. How much would you pay if I was to sell him? (i don't plan on selling him..i'm just curious) 5. Do I look too tall for him? feel free to give me any tips on how i can improve. I know my 2 point isn't all that great lol. i look forward to seeing your answers! Thanks a lot! =) he's a morgan and he just turned 6 in august. and yes, he is still pretty green but he has come a long way since i got him. Thanks guys!!

- Ur horse is really pretty. Your NOT to tall for him trust me..
- You have a beautiful horse. You look amazing on him! It looks like you have been working hard with him because he would make an amazing dressage horse, amazing jumper, and you look perfect on him. Keep up the good work! You might want to try some martingales on flat work to get his head position more correct but other than that you are an amazing young rider!
- 1. How does my horse's conformation look? he looks very well put together nothing about him sticks out at me as a major flaw, i can't tell if he has withers or not, but i like a horse with withers and more of a sloped shoulder. 2. How does he look over the jump? AMAZING his front feet are tucked in so well! the left rein is lose and yet his head is PERFECT over the jump.. he must be a well trained horse 3. Does he look like he would do good in dressage? yes he's lovely = ) 4. How much would you pay if I was to sell him? (i don't plan on selling him..i'm just curious) 1000-3000 depending on his training ability and age 5. Do I look too tall for him? not at all you guys look picture perfect together what breed is he? he's a pretty boy!! = )
- Terrible confirmation
- Nice horse. Conformation I can't comment on. You need the horse standing square and on flat ground. Photos taken from back and sides. Over the jump you need to allow him more head room, his neck should stretch not be tight, otherwise very nice technique. I think he would be ok to do a bit of everything, dressage, jumping and showing. He's not going to be a grand champion dressage horse but he would get you through pony club and adult riders. To put a price on him we need: age, height, breed, education, level etc etc. I would say from the pics around $3000-$3500 AUD He has a nice jump, but doesn't seem to be working that collected on the flat therefore only very basic education in the dressage department would say. Get an instructor and get him forward, supple and collected in the 3 basic gates and through circle work, leg yielding out of circles etc and really get him working from behind and he would do OK at dressage. You are not too tall for him at all and he looks like a great horse for you to learn on and enjoy. He looks quiet and comfortable. I'd be happy to have him. Edited to add: DON'T use martingales, side reins or any other contraption to pull his head down and jam it into place!!! That is not education, that is restricting your horses movement and is lke you running with your arms locked to your sides. Allow your horse the chance for proper education, to be free and to NATURALLY collect and use his muscles and topline as they should be. Jamming their heads down can cause serious damage as it did with my last horse, It took me 6 months to get him working loosely and nice and supple because he was sooo used to just jamming his head. They build up the wrong muscles and will eventually tear muscles and get VERY sore. Once again, as my boy did.
- He looks great and looks like he is an amazing jumper too. His head and neck are soo well rounded over the jump and like the other poster said, his legs are tucked up very nicely.
- I like your horse a lot. His conformation and correctness don't matter - he looks to be safe, solid and kind. A horse like that is priceless! And no, you're not too tall, lol.
- 1. Hes cute and he looks like hes a little green? 2. He looks quite scopey, which is a good thing. He could use a bit more work, but he'll probably be succesful in jumpers. 3. If you put him in training with a good dressage trainer for a while (I did this with my horse and it worked wonders!) he'll be great at it. 4. I'm not sure, depends on his age and breed. 5. No, you are the perfect size for him. Don't worry about it. I hope I helped!
- You 2 look good 1. very nice medium everything, not to big or small chest, butt, and back. He also has a nice head. 2. Looks good to me, but what do i know i barrel race 3. Yea he looks calm and well put together 4. 2,500 (market is bad right now) 5. No you look good you guys are great
- Wow, he is absolutely GORGEOUS!
- 1. idk what comformation is 2. i think he looks great over the jump 3. idk what he would look like if he would do good in dressage 4. i would pay at least 1500 dollars 5. no way! you do NOT look too tall for him!!!! gosh your skinny!!!! omg
- You have very nice long legs but do not look too tall for him. He has a stockiness and depth even though not that big. He looks like a Morgan to me. Has a nice head and a kind eye. He jumps with beautifully folded legs. You two look really nice together. I'm sure you guys could do whatever you wanted to as a team. He looks like he aims to please!!
- Your horse has a very pretty face! his conformation looks pretty good with solid legs and a strong back, the only thing i can see is that he looks a little think in the top of his neck, but that may just be the angle of your photos. and it seems to disappear over the jump, so i think it's the photos. he looks wonderful over the jump, and so do you. you've got a nice forward high crest release so it's good to see a rider not pulling their horses mouth as he jumps. he looks like he's got quite a jump on him too, so you could go quite high/wide with him. he looks like he moves well and has a nice action, so theres no reason he wouldn't so well in dressage. like another answer said, his head carraige could be a little better, but using martingales and lunging with chambons and side reins will help that too. Also, try alot of stretching exercises with him as he stands still and in the walk. it might help loosen his neck up if he feels stiff. as far as a price goes, i can'tsay as you don't say how old he is or what breed he is. but for a jump like that, he'd probably sell for around $3500 - $4000 here in Australia, more is he was young and bred well, and safe and all that jazz. you don't look too tall caus you're skimmy and he's fairly solid. you look just the right size, and your lightness will be handy if you want to jump high! :D your 2 point looks good to me, your crest release is great but maybe raise your stirrups one more hole because your leg slides back, but it's not too far at all. There was one photo of you trotting i think and i think you should just try to sit up on your seat bones a little caus you seemed to be leaning forward. You look like you have nice gentle hands though, but maybe raise them 2 inches so theyre not on his wither as you ride. i think thats all for the moment! EDIT: I didn't mean that side reins and all that jazz will pull him down, if you use them properly they will just help. obviously, don't jam his head in them or anything, but get him used to them slowly by starting with them at their loosest, where they virtualy don't do anything at all. get an instructor or someone to help you learn to use them properly, and it means that you can watch his progress from the ground not his back, and spot if anything is happening with him and monitor his comfort level when you are using them etc. i find they are useful as they let my hrose develop his muscles and all that without the confusion of me on his back.
- Your horse has room for improvement in his confirmation. He looks ok over the jump. He looks like the dressage type. I'm not sure on the sale price it depends if he has his leads, comfirmation, how hes done at "A Shows" Your beginning to grow out of him but you have a little more time on him. You should try to sit up and arch your back a little more. You looks kind of like your bored on him , I guess. But hes a gorgeous horse, has potential.
- Conformation wise, he looks fine to me but it's impossible to judge him properly without a good conformation picture. If you want us to judge his conformation some other time then you need a side on picture with him standing square, on level ground, holding his head so that his poll is higher than his withers (but not ridiculously high!) =) Over the jump it looks like he has a lot of potential. He's taken off a little early, so he's had to stretch out a fair bit, but he'll improve that with experience and it's not really that much of an issue. Dressage wise, I think he could be really good. He's well built, and looks to be fairly energetic in his gaits. Have you tried any work with him properly on the bit and rounded? If he hasn't learned this yet, then he will need to if you want to start doing some dressage together. If I were to buy him... Well it really depends on his temperament, and how he rides - I'd want to have a go on him. In Aus dollars I'd probably pay around $2000-$3000. No, I don't think you look too tall for him - you look just right on him =) Good luck for your future with him, he looks like a great horse.
- Wow he's really beautiful. He looks so awesome dressed up for show. 1. How does my horse's conformation look? Good, yeah there's nothing that sticks out to me. He has a Welsh Pony looking head in the pics where you're just pleasure riding around, but not in the others lol, but hey I think that's just me lol (really cute, it doesn't look weird or bad or anything, just ignore me lol, it's nothing) 2. How does he look over the jump? Awesome! His legs are tucked in, he has really good form and his head like perfect and his on loose rein! (Alot of horses just shove their heads in the air) 3. Does he look like he would do good in dressage? Yes. He looks like he's going really well. 4. How much would you pay if I was to sell him? (i don't plan on selling him..i'm just curious) I'd pay about $4000 (Australian dollar. How much dressge training has he had?). Trust me I bought my horse for $3500 because he had potetential but didn't really have the training. 5. Do I look too tall for him? You look absolutely fine on him. I'd love a horse that small lol. I'm not saying he's small it's just that I'm used to 17hh lol. I love ponies (is he a galloway? 14.2hh+) Yeah don't use any head devices (side reins, draw reins, martingales etc.) to get the desired head for dressage. It's not natural and it gives them a really weird looking jammed fake headset, they just don't carry their heads right and never do. It takes time and patience, you'll get there.
