Any way to find information on paperless horse? Pictures included.?
A few weeks ago we received a horse, "Speedy", from some barrel racing friends of ours. They were not able to give him the proper care he needed like senior supplement, so they decided it best to give him to us to find a good home for him. We had no information on him, just that he was about 20 yrs old, he came from arkansas, and he's a barrel racer/pole bender. By his conformation, anyone who sees him guesses he's appendix. I've been trying to look up sire's with "speed" or "speedy" in the name, though I know that's kind of hopeless cause there's so many out there. Anyway, if anyone could tell me if it's possible to track down this guy's history, that would be great. I know this is hopeless, but I just thought I'd try. thank you. edit: roaning on left rear leg. oops. I already lifted up his lip to look for a tat. No such luck. I realize the barn name/registered name bit. I'm not new to horses. I do know that people can take the barn name from the horse's registered name so that's why I thought of looking up sire's with the name of "speedy" in them. I did find one sire named "speedy hemp", sorrel, born in 1980 from texas. I looked up his offspring years, and in the year 1988 he had a son (sorrel gelding) named "kegis speedy 666". doubt I'm on the right track, but to me it's worth it. again, I know this is basically a hopeless search, but it's just something I'd really love to find the solution to. the only information the previous owners had on him is what I shared.

- well I would ask the other owners and see if they knew if he was registered. i think that is the best shot you have but i hope i helped
- yeah i agree. the best way is to track down his old owners and ask them. good luck!!
- i would also like to find where my horse came from i have no idea what his lineage is.... the only thing i know is that he has "doc" something is his lineage im pretty sure his registered name has doc in it he is about 8 years old maybe 9 if you get any good answers please let me know cause i would really like to find out where mine came from
- with the modern miracle of DNA testing you can have a test done and then send the results to the AQHA or send a hair sample to the AQHA and they can do a test since he is 20 years old they may not have his sample but if his dam was registered and her fillies where registered with a DNA sample you can trace down his dam threw DNA on any of my arabs if someone down the road was to lose papers all they would have to do is have a DNA test and would be able to find the papers
- Have you checked the inside of his upper lip for a possible tattoo? If there is one and readable, you can look it up. Best way to determine his age is to have someone who can read the "age line" on his tooth. That is how we found out we bought a 26 to 28 year old, instead of a 19 year old a few years back for $1000. Had his teeth floated 6 months after buying him and asked if he could tell our horse's age. Ever been surprised and ticked off at the same time? But he's a Awesome horse even at the age of about 30. If your horse didn't come to you with a registration paper, then it would be hard to say that Speedy would be in his registered name, if he was registered. People usually don't call the horse by their registered name, but do give them a nickname to go by. Example: Miss Chrome's Big Boy But because he's fast his barn name is Speedy. And also to think about, throughout your horse's 20 years, he might have been past around and given a different name by each owner. You might just have the latest name he's been given. Sorry if this is disappointing info in trying to find out about your horse's background.
- Speedy may just be his barn name and if he was ever registered it might not have been any part of his registered name. I call my horse Bucky but his registered name is (don't laugh) Peppy's Muscle Man. The only way you will be able to trace his history is through the people who have owned him. Going back through the people who gave him to you and who they bought him from, etc. He looks like a handsome boy.
- Without knowing the horse's registered name or number there's not much outside of tracking him down through his privious owners (I had to do that with a TB mare I had back in 1980.). Find out WHO your friends got him from, then contact them and continue the paper trail.
