  1. sounds like Noah forgot to get a male leopard and a female wolf on his catamaran so we ended up with a catahoula leopard dog.
  2. This site will give you some information about them, and their origin. http://dogbreedinfo.com/catahoula.htm
  3. I have a catahoula leopard dog and i was amazed to learn about their legendary past. The catahoula leopard dog is the only modern breed existing that originated from North American Indians. When conquistadors under De Soto ravaged the gulf coast in search of El Dorado they brought Spanish war dogs which were probably adaptations of Nordic Wolfhounds. They unleashed these dogs on the natives to attempt to force information from them or simply to exterminate them. After the dogs did their job they were abandoned and eventually captured by the Indians. They breed these dogs with their semi-domesticated red wolves. Next the French arrived and cross-breed the Indians new dog with their Beauceron. The Indians and settlers breed these dogs and kept their blood somewhat pure to create the breed we have today. Why is this all important? It shows the primitive nature of the animal and its close relation to a wild animal (red wolf). This helps someone understand why the dog is "stubborn" or "territorial". Houlas love to be Alpha and thus will need more obedience training than say a Labrador.
