- There does not appear to be one specific origin of the term. But if you just imagine a time when horses were the major form of transportation, you can probably relate better to the expression. A horse used for transportation is domesticated. A wild, untamed horse in strong and powerful. It is untrained and will not obey the wishes of man. It's another way of saying nothing could keep me away.
