  1. Raising pups for profit???? GET a real job for crying out loud. I cannot stand backyard breeders!!!!!!! Get a mentor. GEEZ!
  2. If you are doing it correctly, raising dogs is NOT profitable. The only way to make it pay is to cut corners and raise inferior dogs. For information on operating a successful boarding kennel, try the American Boarding Kennel Association. http://www.abka.com/abka/ EDIT: I'm not assuming anything, as a breeder I KNOW that if you are doing it correctly you will not make a living at it. If you want to produce inferior puppies but cutting corners on initial breeding stock, food, veterinary care, testing, quality control, home screening etc. then sure you can make money.
  3. Please do. We all need more poorly-bred Boxers created by someone simply for profit. Be sure to specialize in white ones. I'm all for the boarding kennel idea, but you need some education on why and when dogs should be bred. http://www.learntobreed.com http://www.dogplay.com/Breeding/ethics.html http://www.21stcenturycares.org/misbreeding.htm http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/breeding/breeder3.html http://www.geocities.com/virtualbreeding/ http://www.adoptarescuepet.org/byb.htm
  4. O.k. - if you had the experience for either breeding or for training - you wouldn't be on here asking about it... so move on and find something better to do! Just cause you have to Boxers and love the breed does not make you an expert... Maybe go and volunteer for the Boxer rescue for a few years first - see how you feel seeing all those dogs being left for silly reasons... It will break your heart! If after that you still feel you want to breed or train or whatever it is that you are wanting - at least you have collected some experience and resources!
  5. Here's an easy way to evaluate if you should ever CONSIDER breeding your dogs: http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c219/skatekitten2288/Petneuter.jpg There is a lot more to breeding than just sticking two dogs together. The following website is great (although some of the links are broken, the information that is there is very good). http://www.learntobreed.com/ Especially read the story of Bliss the boxer: http://www.geocities.com/learntobreed/bliss.html Also, a few more questions (there are many many more, this is just the tip of the iceberg!): - Is/are the dog(s)AKC registered? (Not Contenential Kennel Club, APRI, or any other of those non-legit/non-reputable/scam registries) - What is the dog(s) pedigree like? - Are you planning on showing the dog(s) in confirmation to prove that they is a breeding quality specimen? - Have you had any breeding experience or have you found someone that is a reputable breeder to be your mentor with this? - Are you willing to keep all the puppies if suitable homes cannot be found? If you find homes and the new owners at some point cannot care for the dog, are you willing to take it back? - *** Do you realize how much it will cost? If you do things right, even if you sell the puppies for $1000 each, you will likely still be "in the hole". *** .
  6. If you are breeding dogs right, I guarantee you you will never make a dime. So why does anyone do it? Because they love the breed, show the breed, want to better the breed. It's a hobby, not a business.
  7. IF and only IF your dogs are already titled, (Champions) and have had all the necessary genetic testing should you even be considering doing such a thing. I can tell you from experience, you do NOT make any profit from selling puppies! They cost more to raise than you make. Plus you can lose your female during pregnancy or delivery, or post delivery from infections. I have been breeding collies for 22 years, and thank God, have had no problems with my females during or after delivery. I have a great mentor, plus I have worked in the medical field for 30 years, so I feel I am at least better qualified than most are. It's not easy, usually it's heartbreaking, especially when your beautiful little pup dies, after you just spent 48 hours around the clock, trying to keep him or her alive. The reason you should be breeding is to BETTER the breed, not for money. That's a true breeder! The boarding kennel idea, I would call someone in your area who does it, ask them how they got started. They can tell you who to contact in your area. Plan to have lots of money to do this! I am talking THOUSANDS of dollars. There are more rules and regulations than you can think of. I know someone who bought a boarding/grooming kennel a few years ago for over $150,000,,and it does NOT pass the new inspection laws.
