- Below is a link to the complete list of AKC purebreds. There are 7 groups: Sporting (Golden Retrievers, Labs, Irish Setters, Springer Spaniels are part of this group) Hound (Bloodhounds, Basset Hounds, Beagles, Greyhounds, Dachshunds are part of this group) Working (Boxers, Akitas, St. Bernards, Rottweilers, Dobermann are part of this group) Terrier (Cairns, Westies, miniature Schnauzers, Soft Coated Wheatens are part of this group) Toy (Maltese, Bichon, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Yorkies are part of this group) Non-Sporting (Boston Terriers, Dalmatians, American Eskimo Dogs, Lhasa Apsos are part of this group) Herding (German Shepherds, Collies, Shelties, Old English Sheepdogs, Australian Shepherds, Border Collies are part of this group). However, sometimes a KC groups a breed differently from another KC. For example, AKC and CKC has placed Sheltand Sheepdogs in the Herding group, while ANKC and NZKC has placed them in the Working group.
