How are mixed breeds of dogs different from other dogs?????
Public Comments
- The only difference is that mixes come from unknown backgrounds and cannot be shown. Other than that, they're all still dogs.
- If you buy a purebred dog from a reliable breeder who has done all the health clearances and breeds her puppies for good temperment, then you sort of know what to expect. If you buy a puppy from a shelter, you don't know what you are getting and could end up with a lot of vet bills and heart ache.
- Sometimes they have less physical problems than your purbred..i.e. hip dysplasia etc., They might even be less hyper and more even tempered..depending on the purebred. But they all need love and affection.
- Breeds were devloped over hundreds of generations. The parents are chosen for attributes close to the breed standard, and the offspring are predicatable. Good breeders aim for preserving the breed, and have no concern for money. They are lucky ot break even. Mixed breed dogs are unpredictable, they could be very similar to one parent, or they could be like neither. People say they have the best qualities of both breeds, but that is usually crap. They may end up with all the bad qualities and only one or two good qualities, it just is impossible to tell. Mutts can be healthier because they come from a larger gene pool, but a responsible breeder will prevent health problems at all costs. If you want a mized breed, go to a shelter. Never buy a mixed breed dog because the breeder obviously is not trying for anything other than money.
- Not much different. Its just that mutt puppies are impossible to predict how they will turn out, some can be more like their mothers, some more like their fathers, their grandparents or a bit of everyone in his or her background. Purebreds are predictable because there have been so many dogs just like them waaay before they were born. Purebreds from reputable breeders cost more because the breeders are "bettering the breed" and are showing them in dog shows. The only place where a mutt should be acquired is at the shelter, ANYONE that breeds mutts intentionally and gives them made up names like "morkie" or "labradooodle" is either a back yard breeder or puppy mill and should NOT be supported. they are only in it for the money and don't care about ripping off the people they sell them to.
- As far as dogs are concerned they are all the same. All dogs came from the same place. Purebred dogs have been interbred by humans to create traits and looks they want. Purebreds have strict guidelines about looks, temperament, etc where mixed breeds do not have such standards. That does not make them less wonderful especially as pets. Mixed breed dogs are great companions. For more information on mixes visit http://www.designermixes.org Stephanie http://www.designermixes.org http://www.purebredpups.org
