Why some so called dog lovers look at mixed breeds like second class dogs?
I have a dog. She's small mixed breed and.. well, kind of odd looking. I think somewhat mixture of poodle and something else, perhaps yorkie... who knows. I got her for my daughter 10 years ago from a local humane society. We just love her, she is the greatest. Some people call themselves dog lover but they get too technical about certain breeds and don't want to bother mixed breeds. It's almost discrimination in the dog world. Oh, well, I still love my dog, she's good. I guess they are missing out on good dogs. conman, I do realize my dog is getting up there. Thanks for pointing that out lol GitEmGang, if you can "pick and choose" and know-it-all, you're better than me but I'm sure everyone tells you you're the best. I know one thing though... many dogs act just like their owners.

- Cos their snobs?
- Mutts rock.
- Because some people like paying lots of money for inbred animals. Its like a fetish or something.
- do you feel better?
- So sad. I look at a dog and just want to give it love. We live in a cruel world full of perversion, vanity and more. There is descrimintation every where. sad
- Because most so called dog lovers look at the money behind dogs... just like a new car... new expensive clothes. If you have a cross breed there is no money involved because they are not pure bred. To me it dont matter I love them if they are a mutt. I love dogs on their personality. You could have a full bred and it could be very mean. I dont want that dog. I want a dog that is sweet .
- your dogs old
- Stop caring what other people think. Love your dog and your family and enjoy watching the others snobbish, boring, whiny, poodle-carrying behinds.
- I don't know, because they're like dog-racsists? Maybe because they think the genetics has changed and it is not a pure dog anymore, like a pure breed, so they can't breed them again cuz they'll never know what they get. I really don't know cuz I'm not a dog lover
- They are what I like to call "breed snobs" and are absolutely missing out on good dogs! Some of the best dogs are the mixed breeds, because they don't have the problems that inbreeding causes, like hip dysplasia or nasty temperaments. Ignore them and just enjoy life with your wonderful mix.
- It isn't the dog we are against, it is the unethical breeders who mix the 2 breeds, call them "designer" dogs and then charge twice as much for them as they would a purebred, that is what we protest against. I love all dogs, have owned mixed breeds in the past but have never paid for one and never would. I actually own a mixed breed dog named Gracie now. She is a blue heeler and I think lab mixed. She is a wonderful dog. We have had her about 3 years. We rescued her just an hour before she was going to the pound, and knowing the pound here she would have immediately been euthanized. It is so insane that people say that all purebreds are inbred. The males I use for breeding are not from the same lines as the females I use. Sure, they may have common ancestors 20 or more generations back, but that cannot be called inbred.
- i like mutts and purebreds there is nothing different about there personalities but some people think that they are lowering them selves to buy a mutt that is their problem.Go Mutts!
- Because they are hypocrites. They are only interested in how great they will look to others because their dog is "papered"..Almost all purebred dogs have specific breed problems. German shepherds and dobermans with their hip displaysia, dachsunds with their bad backs, little hamster looking dogs with their nasty dispositions. I only like mutts, they have the healthiest bodies and minds, the greatest attitudes, smartest, etc. We expect genetic diversity in people, why frown on it in dogs? Royalty has throughout the ages been half loco because of inbreeding. Tell those snobs a thing or two!
- I totally agree. I do have some favorite pure breds that I like but my mutt is the best dog in the world. I wouldn't trade my 90lb black thing for anything. lol
- Yes, they really are missing out on some great dogs. I have only had two purebred dogs over a many year period, one of which is a Dachshund. He was a throw away because he had heartworms. I adopted him and got him treated. He is old and gray now. But the rest have been mixed breeds and other throw aways, such as the one my old neighbors moved off and left. He lived on his own for two weeks. I set food out for him, but finally couldn't stand it any more and brought him home with me. Got his shots, got him started on heartworm preventive and flea control, and he is still with us today today--he is a highly valued member of the family.
- i dont know but i think mixed breed dogs are very cute
- Pure breeds can be just as healthy as any other, especially if it's breeder was a responsible one. It's the same with mix breeds as well, it all depends on it's genetics. If you go to a pet shop, where they get there dogs from puppy mills, then yes, they will almost always fall apart after a few years, and if you adopt a dog from a humane society , you can't check the background of the dog, or see the parents, but you also don't run as high of a risk with inbreeding. And the reason that some, now this is some, might raise there nose to mix-breeds is because of the designer breeds, not the rescued dogs. They might mistake your dog as one of those ridiculous high priced mix-breeds aka; shnoodles,yorkie-poos cocka-poos etc. The other possible reason is their either stuck up and overly materialistic or they think that a mix-breed is more unpredictable or lacks the heritage and history of a pure breed.
- I don't know why some people are like that. I love all dogs .Dogs have hearts and souls and all deserve to be loved .That's all they ask for .They don't judge you ,laugh at you ,and will always be by your side.I don't understand these predjudice people against certain breeds if it doesn't fit their so called standards of dog.
- well boxers are the only dog for me, and i wouldnt get a mix boxer without meeting it a few times because i would not know its behaviours as i do for purebred boxers. but your right, some people think that just because its a mix its got like diseases and stuff. that can be true sometimes, but not always.
- i have a dach and pickeneese mix and her brother mated with a chow and i have one of their puppies... i dont know y ppl do that a dog is a dog... i guess its like shopping some ppl have to have name brands... the world is like that
- I don't have a problem with the mixed breeds themselves...I have a mixed breed. What I have a problem with , is the idiots out there who are purposley breeding a mixed breed and selling them for hundreds or thousands. There are so many mixed breed dogs in the shelters..why do people have to create more, when so many need a home?
- Well said, and I couldn't agree more. Mixed breed or pure, "true" dog lovers don't discriminate. I think with some people, who will only have a pure bred, it is a status thing - or, they just like the looks of a certain breed of dog - or they are looking for particular characteristics or traits that will suit their life style. But mixed breeds are some of the best dogs there are and people are missing out on good dogs if they only choose pure breeds. And good for you for getting your dog from the humane society; I wish more people did!
- You have a place in my heart. Thank you for adopting her from your local Humane Society. Don't get me wrong, I love certain breeds of dogs. I have 5 dogs. All of them are rescued or adopted. Two of them I believe to be "pure" and three are mixed. They all have their own personalities. I love them all the same.
- WHY?? Because they ARE!! Well, not "second class"-NO CLASS! If you "wuv" your MUTT/MONGREL,that's fine! *I* DON'T!!! I'm NOT interested in ANY MUTT/MONGREL!! Have been in *my* breed since '71 & will CONTINUE! DAM* RIGHT,it's "discrimination"! LMAO!!! That means *I* CAN "discriminate" between TRASH & QUALITY!
