Isn't it funny that most of you are WRONG about your opinion of giving animals human medicines?

We do it in the pet shop where I work in about 90% of the medicated cases, so why does everyone always scream OMG NO HUMAN MEDICINE ITS NOT SAFE?!11 when sometimes, it's one and the same?

  1. Hi there... anyone dispensing medical advice online especially for medications may cause more harm rather than be helpful. In order to prescribe medications, an evaluation must be given to determine the correct course of treatment. Not knowing all the circumstances surrounding the animal's condition - which is better assessed in person during evaluation - would be careless not to mention have devastating consequences to the animal. A young person can join Yahoo! Answers and prank someone - end result could be monumentally deadly for an innocent person who is worried sick about their pet. Some people are that gullible so it's our responsibility to ask these concerned pet owners to do the right thing - see a veterinarian in the best interest of their pet they love so dearly. A hypothetical example... someone asks what would be a good remedy for a fever for their pet. First, it's critical to determine the cause of the fever - is it an infection, poison, genetic disorder causing life-threatening failure of an organ, cancer... etc. There's no way to know without examining the pet FIRST. To dispense the advice of self-medicating online by strangers whom they do not know may worsen the condition and cause a fatality as such. Additionally, no medical professional would ever dispense online advice of what medication to take and the reason is that this is against the Hippocratic Oath they've taken. Anyone in this field will only provide possibilities for why an animal has a fever, but will always suggest that the animal be evaluated by a veterinarian to be certain so they receive the best treatment and medications if necessary. Another way to consider this argument... would you entrust a total stranger online to tell you what medication to take if you, personally have a fever? Let's say for argument's sake... what could be the cause of your fever which you've never experienced anything like this ever before. If you had hemorrhagic fever and someone told you online to take aspirin, you could bleed out and die as a result because you didn't know you were a hemophiliac. Again, this is just hypothetical so this isn't always the case which is why an in-person evaluation is absolutely critical. Responsible and caring individuals would always defer to the people who ask questions online here in Yahoo! Answers to see a veterinarian if there's any suspicion of doubt. At least tell these people to ring their veterinarian to discuss their pet's concerns. People who ask the questions on here may not have money for whatever reason, but having a pet is a responsibility that comes with a financial responsibility.
