Why can't we clone extinct animals that we have complete DNA like tasmanian tiger and frozen mammoths?

if we have the body tissue, how come we can't clone animals like mammoths that have been frozen and tasmanian tiger pups that were put in a liquid tube and are almost basically the same as they were when they died? we can clone sheep and cats and stuff because we have the tissue and DNA, so why can't we clone these animals? i understand dinosaurs as they are millions of millions of years old and we hardly even have their fossils, though.

  1. because we have gametes for live species... if you had a horse that say has 25 chromosomes.. and an ancient relative had 27.. splicing horse DNA with that of the exsinct animal would lead to either a fails fertilization or a sterile animal.. or possible some unexpected mutations (such as down's syndrome with the extra 21st chromosome) among other things of course
