Why are Savannahs so much more expensive than Bengal cats?

  1. Hi Debra... the breeding process is more involved genetic-wise as well as difficult and hence the price will be higher as such. If you decide to also breed Savannah cats in addition to the Bengals you currently are breeding, you may want to consider having a Savannah cat breeder mentor you. EDIT: Junglemist is a gorgeous kitty! - she looks so much like my Bengal boy.
  2. I think the major reason is just as tied up with economics as with breeding difficulty - Savannahs are relatively new compared to Bengals and correspondingly rarer - therefore more expensive. On the breeding difficulty side, due to the relative newness, there are not many SBT Savannahs around, so new breeders are often going from 1st principles with Servals and Maus - that's more expensive to setup. Note that in the early stages of the Bengal breed they were more expensive to purchase (rareness and breeding difficilty again). They will get cheaper. Best wishes if you choose to buy or breed them (I looked at your Bengal site - great cats particulary the marbled ones! I have 2 Bengals - they are wonderful!)
