How much do Bengal cats cost? What about a Toyger?

My wife and I are interested in acquiring either a bengal or a toyger. Several websites list contact information, but none of them list a price, or a ballpark figure. What is the average cost for someone looking for one of these cats as a pet, not for breeding purposes?

1. From a reputable breeder (not a backyard one) Bengals cost about $800 or a bit more. I would NOT recommend a Toyger for the average pet owner. They are not really developed enough unless you have a lot of experience in hybrid cats.
2. Bengal average cost is US$500-US$1000 (varies country to country and also with relative quality of the cat concerned). It is rather more difficult to find breeders and pricing for the Toyger (for instance the TICA site lists no breeders), however there is a breeder site (see below). They are more variable in price range (US$500 - US$1500). The Toyger is supposed to be bred for apartment living, so this might be something to keep in mind - Bengals enjoy running around outside (I have 2 Bengals) - but one wonders if Toygers would actually prefer this too :-). Personally, I think it comes down to stripes vs spots/rosettes! A good Bengal looks like a little leopard, whereas a good Toyger looks like a little Tiger - what do you want?
