How do Jockeys know Race Horses are ?

Running as fast as they possible can? Example: Let's say on MOnday, the race horse runs the track in 3 minutes. Then on Tuesday, he runds the track in 2 minutes. How does the jockey know on RACE DAY....the horse will do it in two minutes instead of 3 ?

  1. it just depends on how the horse is worked and how they are feeding him and how they are to new places and the big one is how consistence they are.
  2. Horses are unpredictable animals. The horse will be handicapped with weight on the day of the race, he will have the stress of the journey to cope with but also the adrenaline and excitement of the arena may cause him to push out extra performance. I don't know what you're asking really, as there is no guarantee - only educated guesses.
  3. The jockey doesn't. I meet a jockey the other day he lives near me, he donated some trees for the rescue. He was a tiny little fellow, i didn't ask him this question but offered him TBs to ride here LOL I guess you never know what a horse will do time wise, depends on the horses mood that day.
  4. They don't know...that is why its called gambling!
