Cross Breeds

Do all maine coon cats have markings on their forehead that resemble an 'M'?

  1. No. The marking you are referring to is related to the cat's coloring, not the breed. Many breeds of cat can have the "mackerel tabby" coloring, which includes this "M" marking on the forehead. Mackerel tabby cats are common, and main coons are common, so the two regularly are found together, but the M is not a maine coon trait.
  2. Not all - consider calico or all white Maine Coon Cats... there are no markings with their foreheads.
  3. No - only those that are the Tabby color/pattern will have the "M". Since the majority of MC's tend to be tabby, tabby/white you would get that impression, but they come in all colors except the pointed and chocolate/lilac patterns/colors.
  4. Nope, they definitly do not. I have two Maine Coons and only one has the M, but his shorthaired sister also has an M and she is a short haired tabby.
