What can you tell me about Maine Coon cats and where to get one?
I have read the descriptions of them and found them highly intersting. What can you tell me?

- They get very very large. They have a big bone structure, and lots of hair. They are good family cats, and are generally mellow. But I cant see why someone would want to buy a pure breed cat when there are sooo many homeless cats out there, getting put to sleep because noone wants them. Please think about adopting. Or look online for a Maine Coon rescue in your area. Good Luck!!
- I have never owned one but I have heard they are highly intelegent and tend to be "doglike" they may follow you around like a dog play fetch etc. they do need to be brushed at least daily and probably be taken to the groomer a few times a year because of the long fur. if you should decide to get one PLEASE adopt. go to your local shelter or go to http://www.petfinder.com or find a rescue organization for maine coons. please adopt rather than buy. there are so many animals eutheniezed every day because there are not enough homes for the animals we already have in this world. there is no need to bring more animals into this world while we are forced to kill perfectly healthy and loving animals because there just aren't enough homes and not enough space in shelters.
- I have 2 Maine Coons up for adoption now and they are great cats. One of my very favorites. I list them at petfinder.com so I suggest you check there and save a life. Breeders and pet stores do not need your money as much as a shelter cat needs a home and to be saved from death. Please do the right thing and adopt one.
- I have always had cats but last year my 16 year old went to kitty heaven and I adoped a maine coon from a shelter. The most beautiful cat I've ever seen, and the sweetest think in the world. They are know as the "gentle giants" in the cat world becuase they are soooo big, but sooo sweet. When ruby my other cat had a heart attack this past year I searched on line to find another maine coon to adopt. It took a few months and I finally found one. So now I have 2! The female is the sweet cuddly one and the boy is huge and soooo funny!!! sweet and cuddly too. He was in an abusive home before I got him so he was always crouching like we were going to hit him so it took him a few weeks to trust us but now he's the king of the house. You would loooove a miane coon, but they have a whole lot of fur and shed badly (fur like a persian) but I give mine the lion cut (where they shave the body but keep the maine around the face and the legs and tail are real flufy they look like little lions......everybody loves my babies....my giant babies lol. Another breed that is called a puppy cat is the ragdoll who also have great personalities but I've never been able to find one at a shelter, they are quite expensive so I'm sure that when people pay that much for a cat...they keep[ it. You can also look up maine coon breeders on line and get one that way as well. Good luck
- i have a Maine Coon cat my parents found him in their back yard and no one claimed him so he moved in with me Im not sure where to get one I do know they are rare but he has thumbs on his front paws ( i think a full maine coon has extra Digits on all 4 paws) the vet told me that it is an Evolution thing they developed over time as a result of spending SO Much time on ships (to keep balance ) i don't know if that's true supposedly they are good mousers but mine would seem to be friends with a mouse rather than kill it they are very gentile and famous for their calming qualities both in humans and other animals my sister has two pit bulls that would kill most other cats but he seems to put them in a trance when they come after him causing them to stop and turn around Ive had him for over ten years and ive lived with and owned others before and he is one of the coolest if you can find one get one for sure also they need to get their haircuts a couple of times a year because their hair grows SO long it will get matted if you don't mine gets what they call the lion cut and he loves it i dont know if you would be able to find a breeder or not but skip breeders there are animal shelters full of pets that would love to be loved every pet ive ever had is a rescue pet of some sort and they never forget what you did for them and they will show you how much they appreciate it
- Maine coons are the best. Mine loves to play in the shower while the waters running. They seem to love everyone even though mine was a feral cat and I had to live trap off of an old farm that had been sold. Fred is calm and loves people and is very large. There is a place you can email to find out more about these and if anyone has them in your area. Its mainecoonrescue@yahoo.com. once you love a MC you'll always love them.
- they get big, they have lotsa hair. and they are really fun to play with. good with kids. and well tempered
