Cross Breeds

We're thinking about getting our Siberian Husky, Diego, a companion dog...any suggestions?

A few details about Diego. He is nearly two years old. He's been in our family since he was a puppy. At first he was raised w/ cats. Then my mother got two more dogs a mini Doberman Pinscher, and a German Shepard/ Doberman mix. We received him from my mother when 3 dogs became too much and he lives we me and my sister in our 3 bedroom house. We both have 8-5 jobs so he is left home all day and tends to get bored and destroy things. We're planning on getting him a companion so he can play around like he used to. Diego is a purebreed Siberian Husky and is bigger than most Huskys, he's tall and lean. So we've decided against small breed dogs, other than another Husky, what would be a good companion for Diego? here are picture links of him. http://s282.photobucket.com/albums/kk254/Sayfray/?action=view&current=diego_2.jpg http://s282.photobucket.com/albums/kk254/Sayfray/?action=view&current=Picture080.jpg http://s282.photobucket.com/albums/kk254/Sayfray/?action=view&current=Im

  1. how about another husky? I would get a female but make sure you get her spayed
  2. a basset hound. they love company, are excellent friends with other pets and are always caring and giving. they're the perfect choice.
  3. alaskan malamute basically the same type of dog they would be good together
  4. Since huskies can be a high prey drive breed I agree a large breed dog is best - a very small breed could be viewed as prey. A shelter dog could work just fine - go and let Diego help pick out a dog he likes. Pretty much any large friendly dog will do. Keep in mind a second dog may not solve the destruction. We had a dog with severe separation anxiety that did terrible damage despite the presence of a buddy. Worst case you could get two destructive dogs!
  5. AAAWWW!Hes so cute! Get him a fixed female malamute or a fixed female border collie get it young if possibble and please get it from a shelter or pound.
  6. I've noticed that people tend to pair Labs with Siberians -- maybe so they can have at least one dog who does what it's told. ;) You might consider adopting a Lab or Lab mix.
  7. aww.. he's really cute! well you could get a malamute, or a samoyed, there really good dogs we have one.
  8. sounds like you are going to enlarge the problem, a better thought maybe to down size not upsize, find a farm that will take him so he has some space---ugru
  9. Gorgeous boy :) My best suggestion? Head down to your local shelter.. Pick out 4-5 of the bigger breed dogs ( consider a "big black dog" as they are the least adopted dogs and more likely to be put down) Anyway, pick your pups, spend an hour or so with each of them, getting to know them, how they would fit within your pack.. When you choose one or two that you think will fit best, bring Diego down and introduce the two.. This way they will meet on neutral ground ( decreasing chances of aggression) and, you'll get a feel for how well they get on :) Opt to adopt!
  10. I have raised huskies and their cousin malamutes they are raised directly from pack canines and are rovers. they do not make real good house dogs. they need a fenced in yard to roam in or a lot of walk and run time. Good luck.
  11. what a cutie!! get him either a german shepard or a mixed border collie. german shepard males are about the size of a NORMAL sized male husky and border collies are about the size of a female husky. i had a 1/2 husky & 1/2 wolf when i was 1-4 but he was either stolen or got out. he was a beautiful dog. his name was cuba. he was a little rounder than your dog & used to play with my cat when he was a pup... we have a picture. hes gone but we still have the cat. anywho, now i have 2 border collie mixes but 1 is more border collie than the other... the other has some lab. HAVE A GREAT TIME WITH YOUR HUSKY they are beautiful creatures. much <33 & hope. :]
