Cross Breeds

Name of film 80's ish. Story about sleigh dogs epic race (not White Fang, Sled Dogs, Balto)?

We thought Beau or Jeff Bridges was in it, but appraently not when searching theri biogs. Has a feel of a Disney / Spielberg film but can't find on their websites. Quite a tearjerker good family film. Please, please, please this is driving us mad.

  1. There are so many that it might take several suggestions. Here's one: Stone Fox (1987 TV movie) starring Buddy Ebsen, Joey Cramer (of "Flight of the Navigator"), and Gordon Tootoosis, Belinda Montgomery MSN.movies synopsis: "Stone Fox" is set in 1905 Wyoming. A young boy is determined to enter his dog (played by O.J., previously the canine star of the Disney Family Movie "Skeezer") in an adult-dominated sledding race. It's all for the sake of his ailing, destitute grandfather. The boy's competition for the $150 prize is more than formidable: the winner for the past several years has been taciturn Shoshone Indian Stone Fox and his intimidating team of Samoyeds. // **SPOILER** The boy's dog dies, but Stone Fox allows him to win the race by carrying the dog across the finish line. A year earlier, this film was released: Toby McTeague (1986) starring Yannick Bisson, Winston Rekert, George Clutesi IMDb synopsis: Toby is a teenager who doesn't care much about school. In fact, he has his sights set on the title of a prestigious dog-sleigh race. He will have to undergo extensive training in order to win it. NOTE: I considered "Iron Will", but it's a 1994 movie, unless you're off on your estimate of the year. The stars are Mackenzie Astin, Kevin Spacey and David Ogden Stiers. Instead, I have a couple of others in mind that are from, I think, the time period you mention.
  2. Disney did a film called Snow Dogs about dog sleighing. Early 2000s though, not 80s Edit : here's a link : http://www.timeout.com/film/reviews/74884/snow-dogs.html
  3. Hi there. I think you are thinking of "Iron Will" from 1994, starring Mackenzie Astin. great film, great tearjerker. Cheers, Steve.
  4. Could it be "Cool Runnings"? With the late John Candy as coach and Doug E. Doug as one of the member's on the Jamaican Bobsled Team. Or how about...Snow Dogs? With Cuba Gooding, Jr. and the late James Coburn. Cuba Gooding, Jr. plays a Miami dentist, who inherits a dogsled team in Alaska.
