- From what I have been told, retired greyhounds are great dogs and are usually very docile and are known to be couch potatoes. They may need a little more then 20 minutes of exercise a day though. Most dogs should have about an hour or so of exercise twice a day.
- Yeah, no. Racing dogs have INCREDIBLE amounts of energy and require constant stimulation. If you get a racing dog and fail to provide it with the stimulation it requires, it will get bored and destructive and tear your house apart. Get a rescue basset hound or something. Those things are total couch potatoes.
- no
- Yes! I have one. His name is Panther. He is amazing, hes so sweet and nice. You should definatley get one.

- a grey hound will need A LOT og excersise, even if it is retired it will still need to run around and walk long distances. I suggest an older smaller dog. Such as a shih tzu, an older dog like them won't need a lot of excersise and like to lay around and sleep.
- Greyhounds can be great dogs...HOWEVER I do not think this would be a good first dog for someone. Greyhounds are not use to living in houses and have to be trained to be in a house before even being adopted - they do not know how to handle steps, windows, doors, or sliding doors. Also, these dogs are use to getting lots of exercise. Why don't you consider a Yorkie or something small.
- A dog bred for running can't be expected to do nothing. Some may be that way but for the most part probably not. Try this to find a good dog for you http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm
- I've heard that greyhounds are awesome dogs.
- Yes, I think so. Retired Greyhounds are wonderful companions, always loyal and affectionate without being hyper. Contrary to popular belief, they do not need amazing amounts of exercise - I used to walk one, and he wouldn't go faster than a gentle trot, and when we let him off the lead he wouldn't run off, he'd just trot alongside us still. Good luck.
- Racing dogs are known for incredible amounts of energy. Some also retire very young due to injury or difficult training. Id suggest one as a beginners dog if you have a very active lifestyle and enjoy running. Greyhounds as a breed needs tons of exercise and were originally bred for running long distances If you want a low-key dog, look at Labradors or smaller dogs. They require less exercise and make great "snuggle buddies"
- In my opinion, greyhounds are a good choice for first time dog owners. They aren't hyper , they're easy to train because they tend to be very easy-going dogs who hate being in trouble, so as long as they understand what you want, are very willing to do it. They're affectionate by nature so make great companions. What makes me nervous here is you saying you want a dog that's a couch potato. Too many people call greyhounds couch potatoes and take that to mean that they don't need exercise. That's just not true. What it means is that greyhounds are very quiet and well behaved in the house, but they still need exercise. If it's a young greyhound, they need at least one really good walk, and preferably 2 good walks every day. That's 2 walks that are at least half an hour long. If they get that, they're very content but they do need their exercise. If you're interested in a greyhound, why not contact a rescue group and get out and meet some greyhounds in person. Talk to the people in the rescue group and ask lots of questions to find out if this is a good choice for you.
- Greyhounds run, need to run, are bred to run. Get a mastiff, although they are big, they are good with a short walk everyday. www.bigdogsporch.com
