Is it weird that I feel nothing while looking at gore pictures of Humans, yet at Animals I cry?
Title says it all pretty much, I see pictures of decapitated/mutilated Humans all the time and feel nothing. Yet when I see it happening to an Animal, I get enraged and upset.

- yea me too its normal i guess desensitations on tv liek csi n stuff
- I am pretty much the same way. I do feel sad sometimes for humans but it is NOTHING like the pain I feel for animals. Plus there are billions more animals suffering everyday than there are humans suffering.
- No it isn't weird, because you are assuming that that the unfortunate humans you see are somehow responsible for their situations and that the animals you see are victims of a tragedy. Try living in a 3rd world country where the culture does not associate misfortune with stupidity. The starving/sick/decapitated humans you see had already lost/never had any freedom to choose their fate and are helpless victims of human cruelty the same as any animals.
- Yes, it is weird but not uncommon. Human tragedy is far worse than animals getting killed. Even higher animals like Chimps and gorillas don't lose as much as humans when they are killed.
- I do remember reading something about this in Psych. I believe that this is a symptom of sociopathic behavior or anti-personality disorder (which ever you prefer). As Dave said, it could possibly just be from being desensitized by what you see on TV. But from what I understand, anti-personality disorder evolves from desensitization.
- Yea, because it's much easier to feel sympathy for animals rather than humans for obvious reasons.
- A possibility, and keep in mind that this is just a theory on my part, is that you may be disassociating yourself from the horror of people being killed. My theory is that it's so awful, you turn part of yourself off. With the rage you feel about animals being killed, they are relatively defenseless compared to humans, and their deaths anger you because you see that they do not deserve to die. Sometimes, the person who gets upset with the death of animals identifies with them for some reason.
- I don't think you're a sociopath or you wouldn't feel for the animals either. Your mind is in control saying that if I let this get to me then I would get paranoid or some other extreme mental situation. It knows it is a picture and you are not in harm's way. Yet if it was picture of your neighbor killed then you would get upset, even if you didn't know that person, because your mind would say, this is close to home and I am in harm's way. We have pets now that we treat like children and the pictures of animals is like pictures of people we are responsible for their safety. You feel like you have failed in your responsiblity to care for them.
