Can someone shoot wild horses in England with a license?

I have a friend who claims he used to belong to an organisation who would cull wildlife at the request of local authorities. He then claimed to have once shot some wild horses. I think he's talking out his ass. Can someone verify or denounce his claims? Many thanks in advance.

  1. It's possible. It's not unheard of that ranchers shoot the horses to improve the herds. I know there are a lot of wild herds of Mustangs in the U. S. in Nevada. Also Cumberland Island off the coast of Georgia has wild Mustangs. http://www.tribeequus.com/easternusa.html I can see in circumstances where they might need to reduce the herds to the food supply or preserve the environment.
  2. are there any guns left in England?,,,in usa it happens...the weird thing is usually instead of hunters paying big money to cull horses,deer..buffalo the govt will hire a hunter at hundreds per animal...@ss backwards...and the anti hunters want the herds overpopulated/sick/starving....for a while the govt was trapping horses and giving them away...cost was thousands a horse and most ended up in alpo [dog food] or getting shipped to France hmmm good
  3. when did you get wild horses in England? I guess the possibility of shooting a abandoned or feral horse would be in the realm of reality we have a wild herd of ferral horses in the states...they are protected by law... we used to harvest them for pet food but thats illegal these days. I have dispatched sick and injured horses and cattle... but I live in ranch country . Breeders used to cull horses..but that practice is pretty well in the past with planned selective breeding practices we have today.
  4. It is Forbiden to shoot horses in the wild, they are wild but are owned by farmers in the area. If he is then he was doing an illegal crime.
