Cross Breeds

Is it wrong to cross breed dogs for a specific purpose when all the puppies are already spoken for?

Me and my buddies hunt nuisance hogs here in Texas and cross breed hounds and bulldogs for hunting the hogs and someone said it was wrong. But every puppy we get from it are always spoken for and end up in good homes where they are treated well. Whats so wrong with that? We arent using random dogs, we use male pit's with a female catahoula and a female black mouth cur. And im not a big fan of the blue lacy. The ones I have come across have been nervous. Every dog we have gotten from this is a better hunter than its pure bred parents.

  1. Rather than breeding dogs at random, I'd hope you were breeding a breed. And if you're hunting hogs in Texas, you ought be using Blue Lacy's and helping to preserve the state dog. And be breeding them pure. They're our heritage. Breeding mutts for hog hunting degrades that. I realize you think you're doing a good thing with good dogs. But there are lot's of mutts out there that can hunt if they're given half a chance, and breeding mutts at random steals their chance. If you're gonna choose to breed then at least devote your hobby to a worthy breed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Lacy
  2. My uncle had his own cross breed, for a purpose. He would cross McNabb Collie with Border Collie to get a good cattle working dog. He trained cattle dogs as part of his income, and his passion. The Borders worked better with sheep, and were super trainable with his methods. The McNabb were a little more cattle-wise, preventing being kicked, and a little 'sharper'.. The McNabb also had a limited gene pool.. He thought the cross was perfect for his training program. Of course his 'leftover' pups were in high demand among the cattlemen. . So, IF one knows what they are doing, who are we to judge? I do like the idea of preserving the Texas State dog, the Blue Lacy..Have you worked with them? http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/bluelacy.htm
  3. Nothing is wrong with it. The a**h*les who criticize sell purebreds, so they get greedy when they loose a customer.
