- The AKC website AKC.org has a section on the history of breeds....where they come from, what kind of dogs were breed to get what we have today, etc.
- I hear that John Holmes is in search of different breeds. He's making a new movie....I believe its called It's A Biker B*tch and Dog World.
- Most breed-specific clubs will tell of the origins of their breed of choice. Otherwise, most good breeders will be able to tell you the origins of their breed.
- Sarah is right -- most breeders with any true interest in their breed can give you info on its origin. Remember, however, that many breeds have been established for so long that their true origins may be lost to history, or their ancestors may be "breeds" or types of dog that don't even exist anymore. You can also try looking up the websites for the Parent Clubs of various breeds (i.e. here, in the USA, the Parent Club for the Bulldog is the Bulldog Club of America, etc.) -- these websites usually have a history and development section on the breed. Books on the breed written by experts in that breed are always a good place to look. I can't think of one specific place where you might find breakdowns of ancestry on all purebred dogs -- you will probably have to do breed-specific searches.
- John Holmes died in 1988. I don`t think he`s in the business anymore. Get the facts before you try a cute answer, idiot.
- Are you *TOTALLY* ignorant of the BASICS of selective breeding??? You *MUST* be,to come up w/a DOOFY question!! BREEDS are ***NOT*** made by RANDOM MIXING!!! NOT now,not EVER!!! Trying to *justify* some STUPID MUTT/MONGREL???
