why are cowgirls called COW girls if they ride horses?

if cowgirls ride horses then y are they called COW girls y aren't they called horse girls???

1. It's because they "rope" cows, not because they ride them. Or, alternatively, because they drive them. Don't ask about that one......
2. Its because they rope them and cattle drove. And it probally comes off cowboy
3. Because their associated with cows. People who raise horse's are called Equestrians. So it would be Equestriangirl.lol
4. The horse is just one of the many tools cowboys or cowgirls use. The word "cowboy", though used in many negative ways, really just means a male who takes care of cattle. "Cowgirl" is the female equivalent of cowboy. If you have nothing to do with cattle you really aren't either a cowboy or a cowgirl.
