question about border collie mixed or cross bred dogs?
i have a border collie mixed puppy. i just bought him over the internet, i dont know how his mom looks like, but she is a pure border collie. my puppy is a border collie mixed(crossbred with a mongrel/mixed breed dog). he really looks like a border collie, only that his spots are gray. should i still consider the traits of a pure bred border collie? or not anymore..? the mongrel is a labrador x dobermann

- he would not be considered in any way a border collie now. There may be 5 or more(probably more) breeds in the mix!! Why would you buy a puppy with such a diverse background? He could be anything. If you didn't see the mother, how could you even know she was a border collie? Shelters are filled with dfogs like this, being euthanized daily.
- Do you have any idea what breed dad is? Consider the traits of a BC, but don't expect puppy to have all traits perfectly, not even purebreds can be expected to be perfect. Allow a bit of leeway. I have a kelpie x BC, he's all brown. He's perfect to me, I don't care where he gets his traits from.
- Border Collies come in many different shapes and sizes. I have had border collies that have visible spots, and some that do not have spots at all. At times there is only spotting on the muzzle area or legs and chest areas. And on some occasions the spots cannot even be seen until they are wet or shaved down. Regardless, if your dog has border collie in it's line anywhere, be prepared for a challenge because, trust me, he will be.
