Cross Breeds

question about cross breed dogs/designer breeds( schnoodle)?

somewhere in Feb09 my parents want to get a new dog we alreayd have an irish setter and a clumber spaniel we want a standard poodle or a giant schnazuer my dad was a schnauzer breeder for 15 years so he knows everything about this breed so maybe a schnoodle( schnazuer x poodle mix) ive looked at some web sties online like puppyfind.com terrificpets.com and i found some "breeders" in my area but there is now way in hell we are gonna pay like 1000$ for a mutt i will be checking on petfinder.com and ASPCA my question is why people do that why they cross breeded those dogs and then sell them for go know how much money and do most of them come from a puppy mills or a backyard breeders??? no offense to anyone but for me its just stupid that people pay God knows how much for a designer breed like cockapoo yorki poo puggle etc... whne they can go to rescue shelter and save a life and pay a little less maybe about 300$ and that amount goes for a good rescource

  1. yes.
  2. They do it because people are stupid enough to pay big bucks for mutts. And ALL of them come from puppymills or BYBs. There are no "good" breeders of mutts.
  3. in aspca most are from puppy mills. but u should ask the person who owns the dog those questions or just investigate on there living conditions.
  4. Yuck! Please don't add the the puppy millers pockets. No reputable breeder would create such junk. Please get anything but, make sure it comes from good pure bred stock.
  5. yes they do- if your dad wa sa breeder he knows that no ethical breeder breeds mutts on purpose. and BYBs and puppy mills continue to do it because they make so much money at it because they are not doing health checks, or giving them proper vet care, and all those other things that go along with turning breeding into a money-making enterprise. That being said, you likely can find a schnauzer X poodle in a rescue or shelter some place. that would be the responsible thing to do, rather than supporting those who do it on purpose.
  6. I am so glad that you are aware about Back Yard breeders and Puppy Mills. I am sure you know that No reputable breeder, would ever breed a mutt! If you really want a cross breed, the only way to go is to adopt. Like you said, try petfinder. You cold also contact some of your local shelters and tell them what you are interested in. They can guide you in the right direction. Overall, never buy a mutt from a 'breeder' or a pet store. I have NO idea as to why some people pay that much money! Don't they know that you could adopt a dog for 1/10 of the price from a 'breeder?' It IS ridiculous! Good Luck!
  7. they sell them for so much so they can buy there crack hahaha and supposedly it makes them hypo allergenic not true i think its bull shit dont buy one you can probably get one from a pet shelter and it would be cheaper and you would be saving a life and yes they are back yard breeders and pets usually come with no health guarantee
  8. ALL designer breeds are from some sort of byb whether its a mill or a normal backyard breeder. Some bybs are more reliable than others. They have their dogs checked and take good care of them. The only reason they are disliked is because they willingly bring more animals into the world when millions are dying for money (they can't do it to improve a breed that doesn't exist) or hobby. You may find one at a schnauzer rescue or a poodle rescue (some rescues take in mutts) and will very likely find one at a shelter. This is one of those popular evils that exists.
  9. i agree with wat u wrote in the eddit plus when they cross breed with a poodle the puppy can be good for people with pet alergies just last night i went for a runa dn a truck drove of with tonnes of dogs in the back, my cuz told me it was a puppy mill truck so i shouted out, Stuff Puppy Mills and ran off i dont like the idea of a dog breeding so amny times a year plus those designer dogs ar not even purebred so go to ur shelter and get a dog their you will be contributing to animals which hav been abandoned!
  10. these mutts are the in thing right now. its like when furbys just came out, everyone wanted one and didnt care what they paid. only this time around it is dogs. and it is all back yard breeders.
  11. I have a schnoodle. My mom and I have minor dog hair allergies so a poodle was the best choice because they dont shed and are pretty good dogs. I think they are really ugly though so my mom nad I went to a shelter and came across a schnoddle that we loved. I hav ehad her for 2 years kno and she is the most loyal, kind, loving, smart dog that I know. From what I heard from other people who have schnoodles they think they are great dogs to.
  12. "Designer breeds" have become very popular and so puppy mill owners have jumped on the money band wagon without even a shred of regard to the health and well being of the puppies they sell. The popularity of such matings are based solely on the desire to be trendy and/or the desire to have a dog with a cool breed name. When purchasing a puppy, it should be determined what your needs and limitations are as they pertain to the puppy. Then a reputable breeder who breeds for genetic and physical health and temperment should be contacted. Better to be really cool and adopt a shelter pet. I foster them occasionally and find them homes and it's one of the most rewarding things I've ever done.
  13. yes most of these dogs come from nasty places tying to make a quick and easy dollar. honestly id get a gt sch. they are wonderful pets just take a lot of grooming but much less grooming than a poodle or poodle cross. mixing breed just dilutes the traits you want in these breeds it does not give you the best of both. now if you found a good dog to adopt thats different. but i would never buy one.
  14. My theory is they want a lot for the dog, probably because there isn't a lot out there in the world. Like 1 of a kind. I am not positively sure if they come from mills or backyard breeders. Im guessing that they probably treat the pups real good and they are healthy. No offence taken!! I actally agree with you! Lol What a coincidence.... I just adopted a lab/hound pup yesterday. No need to pay $1000+ We got him for like $100 and hes perfect! We got him from our local shelter too. Sure everyone wants a one of a kind, or purebred, but mutts are way more better (in my opinion)
  15. Very often a cross breed will be healthier than a purebred of course you can't show or register.and you really don't know how a puppy will turn out,It would make a lot more sense to go to a shelter and find a dog you like,
  16. Because people are dumb enough to buy them. Good for you for rescuing, never buy from anyone breeding mutts. Just don't call it a schnoodle, call it the mix that it is because even the name supports BYBs.
  17. ALL of them come from puppy mills or back yard breeders! NO reputable breeder creates mixed breed dogs! Why? reputable breeders strive to improove and preserve a breed.. since mixed breed dogs have no predictable traits or qualities, its impossible to improove or preserve anything! They charge outrageous prices because there are people dumb enough to pay the price! They believe its some "new" breed.. and are told lies such as its non-shedding, hypoallergenic, and healthier/smarter/will live longer than a purebred dog! Ive even seen people claim that these dogs will be accepted by the AKC real soon! (AKC has made it clear that they have NO intentions of accepting these dogs into their registry!!) Petfinder and your local shelter is the best place to look for a mixed breed dog. Do also check out the poodles and schnauzers on there too.. while a mix of the 2 seems to be the solution, you may also just find the perfect dog for your family in a rescued purebred as well. Sites like puppyfind and terrific pets are full of nothing but irresponsible breeders.
  18. It's called greed. People making their living off of breeding dogs. These mutts meet a current fad fueled by individuals not educated about he problems breeding them creates, they're given a cute name, marketed well and sold. Goodness only knows why anyone would pay so much for them or support those breeding them to begin with.
