  1. I'm not exactly sure how I can help you sweetie. I can give you advice on how to talk to your mom. I don't think begging will change her mind. I would wait a while, she might be strapped from buying the laptop. I would give it a few months, maybe for your birthday? I have a pomeranian...omg I am sooo tired of cleaning up his poop. She is probably worried that she will have to help clean it up. I guess you can explain to her that you really want the dog, and you should tell her you understand she maybe can't afford it right now. Tell her you'll do extra chores around the house to earn an allowance and pay for the doggy yourself. I hope you get one soon hun!
  2. well if you're living under your mom's roof you have to follow her rules. sorry. dogs can get pricey also. Dog insurance, vet care, food, etc. ... I know you say you take care of them. but did you ever consider finances?
  3. So my grandfather died the day before my birthday this year. I didnt get a puppy out of it cause thats a spoiled bratty way in getting a puppy, and im no such thing. i have more respect for my grandfather then that. I highly doubt you will show once you see how much grooming and money it costs. Really its your mothers choice, you live in her house you abide by her rules thats the way of things. Theres not much we can tell you.
  4. Do you have any idea what having a puppy entails? I assume you're still in school. You do realize how notoriously difficult Shih Tzus are to housetrain, right? It takes constant attention to effectively housetrain any puppy -- and I mean constant. Young puppies need to be watched like a hawk, and guess what? Tiny dogs like Shih Tzus need it tenfold. In fact, many of these "purse pooches" never become fully housebroken and continue to have accidents throughout their lives. Small breeds like the Shih Tzu also tend to be extremely prone to separation anxiety. To leave one alone for any longer than four hours borders on cruel. So, if your mom clearly doesn't want to take care of the Shih Tzu, who will while you're at school? While you're at soccer practice? While you're at your friend's house or the movie theater? Do you have a job? You want a show-quality pup, so that will run you at least $1000, quite possibly more. In order to have a puppy that will develop into a well-balanced, show-ready adult, you'll need to enroll her in several obedience classes. These classes typically go for about $100 or more, so that's a good $200-$300 in training. Shih Tzus require grooming, and a single visit to the groomer's will cost about $35, give or take. To keep her in tip-top shape, she'll need a high-quality food, which will cost a minimum of $35 per 30-or-so-pound bag. Then there's tons of toys, accessories, beds, a crate -- all that usually adds up to at least $200 or $300, often much more. Show entries typically cost at least $20, and then there's the travel cost, and hotels and food don't come cheap. Over time, that will add up to a good $1000 or more. Then there's the cost of show equipment, grooming supplies and health tests, which can range from $500 to $1000. So, hey, do you have a bare minimum of $3000 in your pocket? Also, do you really take care of each pet fully? You scoop the litter box every day? Scrub it weekly? You pay for the flea and heartworm medicine? You exercise your Golden Retriever for a good, hard hour or more every single day? You pay for the food? You scoop her poo? You feed her every meal? You socialized her as a puppy? You trained her for good manners? You exercise the rabbits for several hours each day? You change their litter box? You scrub their cage? You feed them? You feed the cats? You groom the Golden? You brush the cats? You keep the cats entertained when they need it? Gosh, if so.. where are you going to get the time for a new puppy, who will require every single moment of your time? Hm, so, which is more important, the laptop or the dog? You've been asking for both, not solely the dog. Good luck. I don't mean to be a party-pooper, but sometimes a dose of reality should be administered.
  5. i guess it takes time to train anydog as someone said you need to think of the costs also involved in owning a Puppie and dog as they are yours for life remember a good owner is a responsible one not one that just lets there dog outside to run around bored by itself while your doing something else with friends , especialy when its like 8-18 weeks old it needs attention and training and time spent with them puppies take time and effort And alot of hard work but will pay off in the end the costs for medical bills are also a factor you have to take into account when buying any animal can we afford the bill if it gets sick what if i get sick? can someone stepin and take care of the animal hope this helps you desided and if you get one remember puppies turn into dogs and are yours untill they pass on in life
  6. Jessica, You said you take care of all the pets by yourself..Do you take care of all of their needs? You probably feed them, with the food your Mom has purchased, you may even change litter, that your Mom has purchased. Possibly exercise your golden on the leash that your Mom has purchased too!! Just taking care of an animal does not mean you are completely responsible for them! There is so much more involved here. And the financial expense of just purchasing a puppy is costly. Shih Tzu's range from 600.00 on up to over 1000.00 dollars. Then it is the matter of grooming them usually once a month, shots and vet care. Then of course there is potty training. Do you have the time and patience to do that? Just because you are going to dog shows, doesn't show you will take care of a puppy. Potty training a puppy is almost a full time job until they are trained. And Shih Tzu's can be difficult to train. Then yousay you are going to show it! Well, that takes more than potty training...that takes additional training, which I am sure your Mom can afford!! And of course she can afford the entrance fees to show your dog. Not only do you sound spoiled...you are!!!
