- no not scary they r soo sweet and they look fantastic...
- Before I answer your question ,I would like to give a small tidbit of information. Bengal cats are bred from a wild cat and a domestic cat. getting one that has a wild cat not to far from it on the family tree ,not only increases the chances of the cat being mean(or rather shows more wild behavior because it is unhappy) but also makes them harder to please and train. I recommend getting one that comes from experienced breeders and that doesn’t have a full blood wildcat to close to it on the family tree. ones that have more domestic cat in there blood are more friendly and tend to be happier in a home and the happier the cat the nicer the cat. and yes they like to play. keep in mind that every cat is different though and some of it is just personality. good luck with you and your future kitty (I don’t mean to insult your intelligence on the breed I just want to make sure you are aware of the breed background so you don’t end up unhappy if you get one)
- All cats are nice to humans only as the whim takes them. All cats are happy to be scary to humans as the whim takes them. Quite right. Bengal cats do how ever, require a little more specialist care than ordinary cats so you should probably do some very thorough research before getting one. Also be sure that you only get one from an accredited breeder. They can come with lots of health issues other wise and cost a lot in vets bills. Also there is a crime culture of stealing them from loving homes and selling them, as they are still relatively pricey by comparison to standard domestic cats. Failing this there is nothing wrong with the Egyptian Mau or the Good old hardy British/American Tabby, both much easier too afford and both similar in appearance to the Bengal cat. The Egyptian Mau has the distinction of being the fastest domestic cat and also the most direct descendant of the African wild cat. So closely related as to be genetically almost indistinguishable. Egyptian Mau cats can also be rewarding pets as they are sociable, freindly and talkative. I jest not. My Egyptian Mau 'talks' to us all the time, it's very entertaining. Worth thinking about before you go paying through the nose for fancy exotic breeds that actually look almost the same any way. Bottom line, if your going to get any pet, do lots of research first and make sure your home and lifestyle are suitable. If you are getting a Bengal Cat good luck, I hope you have great pleasure from your new friend for many years. I understand they can be very rewarding pets. Edit: For the information of another poster, Bengal Cats are not bred from Wildcat domestic cat cross. They are bred from an entirely different species of small cat and domestic cats. There are now several specialist exotic cat cross breeds using this sometimes questionable cross species technique. The most popular are the Bengal cat and the Savannah cat. Species used as stock include the Cerval and the leopard cat.(Bengal Cat stock) Domestic Cats are now known to have all descended from the African Wildcat, very closely related to the European wildcats still found in Scandinavia, Scotland and on the continent. There is some concern as to the possible extinction of the European wild cat due to breeding out by feral domestic Cats.
- yes, my best friend used to breed bengal cats, (she doesnt anymore) but she has two of them and they're very friendly, hers likes playing with the mouse toys and bouncy balls but they're good pets as long as they have been handled well hope this helps
- First, for Chocoholic - Bengal cats were indeed bred from a wild cat - the Asian Leopard Cat. It's a small spotted wild cat about the size of a regular house cat. The cross between a ALC and a domestic cat is referred to as the F1 generation. Two F1's that are crossed produce F2's and so on. The higher the number the farther removed from the wild ancestor they are. Understanding their background, Bengals make great pets for the right person. They are very active and athletic cats, and aren't cuddly docile lap cats. Like many purebreds, people get them for their stunning good looks and then take them to the shelter when they find what they are really like. Great cats for the right people! Scary? That's just a matter of opinion.
- If you get one that is an F5 or above, they are like normal active cats of any other breed. They should not be only cats - need to have another cat or dog to play with. They are super active and demand a lot of attention.
- I had one. They are a little more demanding than normal cats, but their looks is awesome. Get two so they can stay more active. :)
