Should Easy Goer be considered the greatest horse ever?

The horse was only beaten in the Breeders Cup Juvie and The Kentucky Derby because of his displeasure for the peanut butter like slop of Churchill Downs (and he still managed 2nd in those races). He was only beaten in the Preakness and Breeders Cup Classic because Pat Day for some reason (still unknown to this day) took an equine machine, and tried to make him "start and stop" three times each race instead of just letting the horse run his guts out. He could have won both of those by 10 lengths.

  1. I would have to say that he earned his place in the history books, but not the greatest horse of all times. His real claim to fame was beating 1989 Horse of the year, Sunday Silence, in the Belmont Stakes denying him the Triple Crown. A son of Alydar, he won 14 of his 20 races and placed second five times, including three runner up finishes to his arch rival Sunday Silence. He was not favored in the only race he defeated SS, the 1989 Belmont Stakes. The only race he finished worse than second was the 1990 Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont Park where he came in third behind the eventual HOY Criminal Type and the two time sprinter, Housebuster carrying considerable more weight. Easy Goer won a total of $4,873,770 in his lifetime, and was inducted into the HOF in 1997
