Cross Breeds

What are the different types of hair dogs?

I have maltese right now, he's very cute. My dad's allergic to fur dogs, so I was just wondering if there are other types of hair dogs. Thanx!!

  1. Poodles are hypo allergnic. You cannot be allergic to them (: I have a miniature poodle.
  2. All dogs have hair. The whole hair/fur thing is a myth. There are low shedding breeds that need to be clipped because they only shed lightly such as your Maltese. Some sensitive individuals will still have allergic reaction to them. The dander that causes an allergic reaction is found in the dog's skin, feces, and saliva. And just because your Dad does not react to your Maltese doesn't mean he won't react to another breed, even a low shed breed. And adding more dogs to the household, regardless of breed, increases the dander and the likelihood your Dad will have a reaction. Genevieve - You are not correct. There are no totally hypoallergenic dogs - not even poodles. I know people who have allergic reactions to all dogs - including poodles.
  3. well we have hypoallergenic dogs that shed little or none. they have shorter hair
  4. you can get hairless dogs, they have them in america, however i think they are quite rare and expensive. Poodles do not shed hair much, and i also heard greyhounds are good for people who are allergic!
  5. COAT! Dogs have COAT...not "hair"...not "fur"!!!! Rough long silky broken profuse double wire harsh curly smooth corded thin thick water-resistant etc. People aren't allergic to COAT...they're allergic to DANDER!
  6. There is no such thing as hypoallergenic dogs no matter how many times people say it or pass it on! All dogs have the same type of fur - ALL OF THEM! All dogs produce dander which is what people are allergic to! Some produce more than others. By increasing the number of dogs in your house, you increase the dander. Remember that allergies can be cumulitive so the amount of dander required to set off your father's allergies might not be set off with one dog (and good housecleaning) but two might be too much.
  7. Genevieve, I hate to burst your bubble but the is absolutely no such thing as a HYPO-ALLERGENIC DOG, some people are allergic to hair/fur, some to dander, some to saliva, or a combo of all three the difference between fur and hair is Poodles, maltese, yorkies and a few others i cant think of at moment all have hair and don't shed as much as other dogs, the hair has a blunt end and keeps growing. where as dogs such as GSD, rotties, dobies have fur which is pointed and keeps pushing each other out, hence shedding But because you have a poodle doesn't mean you wouldn't have a allergic reaction to another poodle. I have been breeding poodles for over 30 yrs and there has been a couple of time I have had to take puppies back and return money because new owners were told to get a poodle for child allergies.
