How would I go about cross-breeding a nashi pear tree and a mandarin tree?
Would I be able to grow such a cross-breed in Sydney, and what would the resulting fruit be like?

- If the mandarin is an orange tree, it won't work. You need to cross plants from the same general family if you are to have any chance of success. Pears and oranges won't work. That would be like trying to get a kangaroo to mate with a rabbit.
- That's like wanting to cross a dog with a cat. Different species too genetically far apart. Scientific name for the nashi pear is 'Pyrus pyrifolia' also called the asian pear. A mandarin is a citrus. Sorry to disappoint. The fruit would be absolutely marvelous.
