What is it called when you work with wild animals?

I really want to work with wild animals, whether help rehabilitate them or care for them. Is there a degree in this that I can major in? Would it in involve going to a special school or just a typical 4-year college?

  1. It would depend on the college you are looking at-- a zoology or field biology major oh and those were at a four year college
  2. Many schools don't still offer a zoology degree, but they usually have something like a biology degree with a concentration in zoology that is pretty much the same thing.
  3. You can earn a regular degree, in biology, zoology, wildlife biology or similar majors. The important thing in going into caring for them (whether as a rehabilitator, zookeeper, at an animal shelter, etc.) is experience, which you can get by volunteering at a place that does what you're interested in, or if there's not a place nearby that does exactly what you want to do, any hands on experience helps. You can also work with wild animals as a scientist (could be zoologist, ecologist, wildlife biologist, conservation biologist, etc.), which doesn't necessarily involve a lot of caring for animals (though it can), but studying them in the wild. You can also combine these two things, if that interests you, as many zoos do with breeding programs, particularly those that intend to release animals back into the wild, as well as various conservation projects (like the Cheetah Conservation Fund) that do rehabilitation as well as wild study.
  4. wildlife biologist, game warden, field biologist, zoologist, zookeeper, etc.
  5. Zoology Degree the only college i know of that offers this is miami university if ohio.
