How does race horse breeding help contribute to overpopulation?

Just because of the questions I got last time, here: flat racing thoroughbreds particularly in America but anywhere else is fine it's for my senior research paper and I need actual sources THANKS!

1. in the uk, the 'racing post' is a daily paper and last friday they published a bloodstock supplement with much info. it may be poss to download this as a pdf from their website
2. Just because of the questions last time? Overpopulation of horses? I didn't know there was such a thing as too many horses (except for the fact some people get tired or cheap and don't want to keep the ones they have and thus they end up being slaughtered), anyone can keep as many as they want) I'm not really sure what your list is for, perhaps you could try google or dogpile for resources, or even magazines and books. The category Pets>horses might also give you better responses.
